Training Log Archive: revy

Bob and Lucy are in town. Cold day but clear - headed up to macpherson. A summit attempt was a possibility. Have never seen as many tracks near the furry knob as there was today. I guess the high hazard concentrated people in certain spots. Even had some tracks heading up towards the summit. We decided against going all the way to the top as the crux pitch didn't look that appealing and it was a bit cold to enjoy the summit. Skied a new line from the upper shoulder then skinned up and skied the boulevard on skiers right. Despite the previous traffic found some untracked snow. The cold temps made it ski kind of weird but still a nice day.

Morning outing with Brendan to MacPherson. Continuing the earlier season mission to ski a new line there every time if possible so went and skied the lookers left chutes beyond the fingers. Checking them out visually yesterday while nordic skiing they seemed to have good coverage. Turned out that you can pretty much ski the first chute from the ridge as the opening narrows but doesn't pinch off and actually widens near the top. We didn't quite make it that high as it required a couple committing switch backs. The pit we dig suggested the storm slab was stubborn to trigger but didn't want to push our luck given the possible long ride down. A good run down - the lower bit is actually quite spacious with lots of space for a bigger group. Worth a trip back I think.

Nice afternoon ski. Should have gone a little earlier to get some sun but wasn't organized enough.

Had plans originally to ski near Banff or Lake Louise but since the cold snap produced even colder temperatures today that plan was thrown out the window. Was -25C when we drove past LL. Got home at lunch and went for a nice ski here instead where it was a much more pleasant -8C.

Hockey. Two full lines so a bit faster but not as tiring.

A short ski at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Pretty dead there today as it was cold. Minus 20 when we started. Definitely eyelash freezing weather. Stayed relatively comfortable for 45 minutes then face started freezing. The pre-ski purchase of some new booties certainly helped. Nice views as it was a clear day.
