New Years trip to Sorcerer with Courtney, Atsuko, Brook/Andrea, Russ/Vikki, Stuart/Eiri, Adam and Mike. We flew in right before a storm dropped about 30cm of new snow (although given this was the drier side of the Selkirks the previous storm which had dropped over 80cm on the Monashees had only dropped 15-20cm here). HS was 150-200cm, Dec 18th facets about 70-80cm down and variably reactive. Biggest issue was a reactive stellar layer in the storm snow about 20-30cm down and possible wind slabs. The facetted snowpack meant that the alders were not as well buried as they should be given the HS.
This was our first time at this lodge and today was a bit of an exploration with mixed results. All the tree skiing near the lodge heads downhill - so no exploratory uptrack and we were dropping in somewhat blind. First run (Boulder Boogie) had some fun pillows but not quite what I was looking for in a warm up run (especially for Vikki who forgot her snowboard bindings and had to try and learn to ski on the fly).
Second run had some faffing around as we dropped in too early and were skiers left of where we had to be. Fun once we traversed (and I climbed back up after finding a good cliff) into the main Lee's Trees boulder field. Then set a new track back to the lodge which helped me get a lay of the land...
