Road Run 56:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon XT Wings S-LAB 4

Managed to get my lazy a$$ out of bed in the early AM for an interval run along lake. Felt pretty slowish but it has been long days of late. Going home to my girls today...finally.

Road Run 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon XT Wings S-LAB 4

Went on a different road climb out of La Clusaz...up, up, up. Burn those thighs on the way back down!

Note

This just in...Leanimal, Weeanimal, and I are moving to France around the beginning of the summer. I'll be out of Salomon HQ as the Product Manager for Trail Running Footwear so keep the commentary, feedback, and ideas coming! Leanne will become a full-time adventure racer of course and will have hill-climbing prowess in short order given all the mountains around Annecy. We're pretty excited!

Road Run 40:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon XT Wings S-LAB 4

Got a quick run in before meetings all day. There's no leisurely route as you're either going on a steep up or a steep down.

Alpine Skiing 1:30:00 [1]

Got out on the hill for a bluebird spring ski day at La Clusaz. We were out there for hours but actual leg burning time was 1h30 or so. Conditions were slippery in some places but schmoo'y in others and given that I'm a crap alpine skier, I just tried not to break anything. Stunning views all around us. The 10.5 cm BBRs were quite a bit wider than anything I've ever been on before.

Trail Run 3:30:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon XT Wings S-LAB 4

Epic climb from Annecy proper to Veyrier and its nearby peaks. I was pretty gassed on the ascent and it was 'awesome' to have one guy whip by like it was nothing...I told myself that he must be a local. Stunning views from atop the ridgeline and even spotted Mt Blanc to the NE. On the descent, I bumped into some slackjaw'ed youth who had somehow gotten their mtn bikes up there and were negotiating the sketchy terrain. They're nuts as there were sharp rocks everywhere just waiting to gouge out some body part. Long road run back to Annecy afterward and I certainly didn't break any speed records.

Trail Run 57:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon XT Wings S-LAB 4

No rush to get to the office this AM so went for a run toward Mt. Veyrier and then north to Annecy le Vieux to check the area out. Still don't have a lot of confidence in my ankle and everything's pretty tight below the knee on my right leg. Glorious weather out today!

Trail Run 1:26:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon XT Wings S-LAB 4

After some jet lag and long days, I finally hit the Semnoz for a hilly run. I managed the full climb from my hotel without walking...might be a first. The run back down got a little sketchy in the waning light so I was extra careful because of my ankle.

Road Ride 2:25:00 [3] 62.0 km (2:20 / km)

Glorious riding day to the west and south of Orillia with Leanimal. We both struggled on the hills but hey, it's still early in the year which makes it okay I reckon.

Bad Daddy moment - Weeanimal took a header off of the couch when I was watching her. It was quite a tumble but 2 minutes later, she was smiling and laughing again. If I had fallen the same relative distance, I'd be in the hospital.

Road Ride 2:30:00 [3] 60.0 km (2:30 / km)

First ride of 2012 so no wonder it felt like it was uphill and into the wind heading south from Orillia toward Barrie...and uphill and into the wind going north toward Mt. St. Louis Moonstone...and...you get the picture. In my defense, it was a decently hilly route that I put together. It only gets easier from here, right?

Trail Run 57:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon XR Crossmax CS Neutral

It was a mud bath on the HVT up to Duffy's and I don't think I've ever seen so many worms in my life. As I ran along in the dark, lighting the way with my Ay-Up!s, they'd slither quicker than I thought they were capable of back into their little holes. I actually stopped to watch a few but had just enough maturity not to squish a couple under my shoe. Took the roads back as it was such slow going on the trail.

Road Run 1:01:00 [3]
ahr:133 max:160

Late night run around B-Town in SHORTS! Piriformis seems pretty tight and has been ailing for a bit now...must get it checked.

Swim 50:00 [3] 2.2 km (22:44 / km)

The Goose-man joined me this AM for a 'here's how it's actually done' session in the pool. At the risk of pumping his tires a little, it really showed me how much further per stroke I should be going...easily another foot or so. He had me by at least a body length on each of the first 25m and the gap widened from there. I tried to keep my distance in the lane, however, as he was sporting his hardcore Johnny Weissmuller special...yikes, that's a shocker.

Swim 45:00 [2] 1.8 km (25:00 / km)

...And we're back...again. I've never been sick 2 times in a month in my life. So frustrating that I had to miss out on the Snowgaine...ugh.

Decent swimming session featuring 12 x 100m as the CORE. My 'favourite' part was when the AquaFit instructor started to take out the lane buoy WHILE I was still completing a length...who does that? All of a sudden I hit it so I looked up wondering WTF, saw her, and she had this annoyed look on her face. My internal monologue wasn't polite as my actions were as I just moved to the 'members lane'...a lane that isn't quite as wide as a real lane. What'ev.

Swim 45:00 [3]

Late afternoon yesterday, I started to feel feverish again. Tried to push through during the swim but bailed after about 4/5 of the day's swimplan. Energy gone.

Orienteering race 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon SpikeCross

Was due to lay an egg at some point this THOMASS season and today was the day. I took it pretty deliberately for the first 6 CPs and then tweaked my ankle. Confidence gone after that...but so went the concentration on the map, too. Sh!t. I screwed up CP after CP thereafter and got spanked by the AR0 crew who executed great races per. I just hope my ankle is okay for next weekend's Snowgaine...

Trail Run 56:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon XR Crossmax CS Neutral

Slow run along the Bruce and its offshoots out of Kearn's Cliff Park. Tweaked my ankle a little despite running very gingerly.

Friday Mar 2, 2012 #

Swim 1:05:00 [4] 2.0 km (32:30 / km)

W/U - 400m free
B/U - 50m front scull & kick, 50m push & glide
CORE

- 4 x 100m free (target 1:45...low 1:50s each time)
- 1 x 200m free (target 3:30...hit 3:48...boo)
- 6 x 50m free (target :52...just over it each time)

Trail Run 1:06:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon SpikeCross

Finally back on my feet running. Goose and I headed out in Albion for a slushy/snowy run...in daylight! Certainly did not break any speed records. I'm sure it'll start to come back slowly.
