Running 30:00 [1]

Not actually sure how long, but ran over to the gym with swim stuff, and then remembered that the pool was closed all day for water polo cuppers. So then ran around in the Kidneys, then over Donnington bridge and along the Thames to Iffley lock then back to Donnington and home.

Legs a bit tired from yesterday, but not ridiculously so and not injured- woo!

Swimming race 13:43 [4] 0.75 km (18:17 / km)

Varsity triatlon @ Blenheim Palace

Ug. Gross, gross weather! Rainy, rain, rain. Feet were already numb just walking barefoot to the start!

But not a bad swim. I stayed to the left, out of the crowded mass, and then hugged the buoy line all the way to the turn, which kept me going straight. Much slower thant the good swimmers (by about 3 min), but not too terrible!

Cycling race 36:42 [4] 21.0 km (1:45 / km)

Cycle bit. Way crowded, but think I did a good pace. Quads burnt most of the time, not breathing too hard, but I did focus on spinning fast too... Caught Josephine on the 3rd lap somewhere.

Lucy, the Cambridge girl who got second was about a minute faster on the bike, Clare, who one was 39 seconds faster. So room for improvement here too! Not just the swim...

Running race 21:02 [4] 5.4 km (3:54 / km)

Hilly run course! Two laps, including a steep down and a long slog up back to the palace. The club president ran the 2nd lap with me, and gave lots of encouragement. (He had punctured on the bike).

Fastest women's run time out of the varsity set, but only by 12 sec over Clare!

Note

My first transition was 3:12, second one was 1:38- didn't lose much time on either.

Total times for the top 5 women:
Clare (Ox) - 1:12:47
Lucy (Cam) - 1:15:12
me (Ox) - 1:16:14
Jess (Ox) - 1:18:33
Josephine (Ox) - 1:18:39

Woo, yeah Oxford gals! =) The men won too, which is the first time in varsity triathlon history the guys have won!

Swimming 20:00 [1]

Easy swimming with wetsuit in Hinksey. Weeds are coming up.... Probably won't be swimable if they get much worse.

Cycling (turbo) 20:00 [1]

Took the turbo session way way easy, basically just an easy spin.

Running 7:30 [1]

Transition into easy jogs around the track...

Running warm up/down 22:00 [1]

About only a 7 min warm up because I was running so late.
Then 15 min afterwards catching up with Em Crowley. Great to chat and run!

Running 4:47 [5] 1.5 km (3:11 / km)

Town v. gown 1500m

Never done town v. gown before, but this was fun. Really didn't show up in time to properly warm up or stretch at all, and wasn't convinced until the first 100m that I was actually going to take it hard at all.

Felt strong and under control. Could totally grab the remaining 10 seconds to the blues time with a little more confidence, pain and perhaps a few training sessions of 400s....

Totally counts as tapering for the triathlon, right?

Cycling 25:00 [2]

Boring, boring, boring. Just spinning. No intervals.

They even ripped out TVs that are normally there. Even more boring.

Easy easy swim session.
