Running (Road/XC/Terrain) 26:00 [2] 3.85 km (6:45 / km) +150m 5:39 / km

Shap - Swindale SE (06/08/06 Finish).

Orienteering (Open Fell) 1:39:15 [2] **** 10.8 km (9:11 / km) +360m 7:53 / km
spiked:14/20c

Swindale SE. Ran the same course again as Wednesday but this time backwards and at night evaluating whether to buy a head torch like Alan's. It's a controversial choice being one primarily designed for the entertainment industry rather than any particular sport. There certainly wasn't any problem with the range but it took a few controls to get used to what part of the beam to look at the map with. Didn't bother with changing the beam strength at any point tho so maybe that would be better for analysing the more detailed areas of a map. These head torches are just the j o business take my word for it. Cheaper (£160 for torch/batt/charger), lighter, lasts for much longer (5 hours on max beam) and charges very quick.

You'd think seeing as I'd been to all these control features very recently it wudda been a lot easier. Defo need more practice at this...

19. Got a bit insecure before the circle started thinking was left or right when was bang on. Do this in the day as well a weakness of mine - a consequence of not knowing 100% exactly where I am, shudda judged the distance better and been more aware of the features before the cirlce.
18. Again not knowing 100% where I'd come from relocated wrongly thinking drifted right when was bang on line. Lost loadsa time here trying to relocate afterwards. Remember thinking on Tues the detail was a bit weird around this one.
17. Took a different route to this one from udder day. Much better actually. Again knew exactly where I was on the approach but forgot nearing the circle.
14. Having not enuff of a plan cost me here. Missed left.
10. Big mistake. Let the shape of the land take me off line, assumed it was a certain hill and didn't check the compass.
9. Lost a bit of time here making sure I was in the right place, I was - bottoms.
3. On a roll and running a bit faster. Not paying attention concluded I was further on than actually was. Relocated quickly off a big reentrant.

It's not all bad tho spiked almost all of the difficult legs including 8 where I realised wasn't in the right place on Tues! Spike rate duly reduced! Wasn't going as fast for a lot of other (than it was night) reasons - a bit tired and didn't want to hurt myself, 50m more climb going backwards and as it happened I really hadn't eaten enuff - 9 hrs since lunch by the time finished!

Walking (Terrain/XC/Road) 36:45 [1] 4.45 km (8:16 / km) +45m 7:52 / km

Did actually jog down to the road (very slowly!) but walked from there - was proper giddy. Fortunately had a caramel Rocky bar to sort it - mmm.
