Orienteering race (Open Moorland) 1:23:45 [4] **** 9.7 km (8:38 / km) +300m 7:29 / km
spiked:15/20c

Penistone Country Park & Haworth Moor. Went out fast - maybe shouldn't have considering how tired I was expecting to be but wanted to test myself. First 6 were good in the complex bits of Penistone at this point 3rd, 30secs down on Frodo and 30secs in front of Charlie and Steve Watkins. Then totally messed up 7 overshooting and losing approx 3:30. Bad ruff compass/parallel error on a vague reentrant shape on 9 lost 6mins almost hitting 10 first and then 30secs on 10 itself tired of uphill thru the moor taking the road (too far) instead. After that the next few into the wind, thru some really quite tuff moorland being able to see the shape of the land from 100's of metres away - very uninteresting from a technical perspective. Battling thru the tiredness was taxing here and felt like retiring. Lost a min on 14 ignoring the shape of the land then ok (shudda gone str8 on 17 - 15secs?) and very disappointing to not utilise the most complex bit once back into the park - an easy run around the path to an obvious reentrant. A (mostly) shit area made worse by the planning - wudda much rather been at the HH event fo sho.

Magic is an orienteering God - I am secretly hoping he took the whole week off, made no mistakes at all and that his time (<59mins) was world-class i.e. even Hubmann wouldn't have done much better.
