Track 5:00 [5] 1.0 mi (5:00 / mi)
I did some intervals on the track. First I ran three quarters of a mile at a five minute pace. After resting, I ran the last quarter mile at full speed brining my total time to 5 minutes for the mile. I hope that this will train me to run at a 5 mile pace, so I can work my way down to running 5 minute miles.
Trail Run 15:00 [3]
After running at the track, I did an easy trail run. It was dark, so I took my headlamp. I brought along a course from Finland that I hadn't run so that I could work on my technique while I was running. I worked over the course while I was running, picking route choices and attackpoints, identifying difficult controls, and all the other various skills you use in Orienteering.
Agility Training 2:00 [5]
After running my mile at the track, I ran along a steep embankment next to the track that is covered in boulders. It was like running on a slanted rock wall, but the boulders were uneven. It was a great concentration exercise since I couldn't take my mind or eye off of the task at hand, or I would fall. It felt just like the main challenge in orienteering: concentration! After 2 minutes, I felt mentally exhausted. I will have to work on my mental endurance.
