Orienteering race 49:34 [5] 4.1 km (12:05 / km) +230m 9:26 / km

Flying Pig, Day 2: Long Brown at Yellowwood. Very solid though unspectacular effort. Navigated well, ran well, no mistakes beyond a few bobbles, though I missed a route choice (for #6) that would have saved a minute. Took my time early, conscious of not getting discouraged in the thorny woods (after yesterday's sprint); was strong at the end. It was fun after #2.

1,2. Could've moved faster on these two. Was very conservative because of the posted 230m climb. Afterwards, computed my climb as only 170, and it could've been less had I taken the better route to #6. Nevertheless, nailed both controls so had reasonably good splits.

3,4,5. Realizing most of the climb was behind me, picked up the pace, and still nailed all three.

6. Never even saw the road option. Right near the end of the trail run, left too early, examined the spur E of the correct one, realized the error quickly, and got to the bag without further ado. Lost about :10.

7. Thick woods and deadfall kept pushing me right. When I found myself close to the lake, turned left and pretty soon saw the bag.

8. Didn't see the uncrossable fence on the map, had to veer left and go through the clearing. Got down to the bottom of the big reentrant before really figuring out where I was going. Two bobbles, about :10 each.

9. Hadn't planned on going across the bridge, but as I left #8, saw someone doing it, thought it would be fun, so went that way.

F. How did Charlie beat me by so much in the chute?

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 0.6 mi (16:40 / mi) +80m 11:47 / mi
shoes: Integrators Orange

Warm up: 500m flat jog, then walk up steep hill for 500m. Thought it would take much longer to get to start, so had to keep jogging around waiting for my actual time.

No cool down. Enjoyed sitting out in the sun for a while, with no particular place to go :-)
