Orienteering race (Nav Dash) 45:00 [3] 6.0 km (7:30 / km)
What a learning experience.
I only managed to about control #13 before I felt a niggle in my knee & I chose to walk in. I had a couple of nav meltdowns but learnt a few important lessons.
1. Don't follow - I ran straight past a control because I assumed the person in front new where they where going.
2. Read the description - If I hadn't waited until after the event to read the control descriptions things would have gone much better.
3. Listen for the beep - I think I didn't tag a couple of controls properly as I was rushing ( didn't matter in the end)
4. Don't rush
5. Trust the map - at one stage I was starting to think the map was wrong when I was standing at one control thinking I was at another (see #2)
For a first time, although I didn't finish I was happy with what I took away from the event. Can only improve from here.....
I think the knee will be fine but it wasn't worth the risk.
When I got home I had Ice on my left knee, a heat pack on my left shoulder (from yesterday) and my left nut was just right.......
