Paddle (River) 3:34:00 [3] 30.0 km (7:08 / km)
ahr:132 max:146 shoes: Endorfinn Ski

Paddle with Stevej from Garratt Rd Bridge to Middle swan bridge and back.
Steve had warned me of the difference between our previous paddles and this one and I believed him, however I don't think anything can prepare you for how you will feel mentally on your first long paddle.
We cruised up to middle swan bridge without any problems, stopped for a bite to eat (my homemade power cookies where close to the best things I have ever tasted), then back into the return journey...
After a couple of kilometers Steve said something about how it was about to get tough so grit your teeth and keep going. He then started to up his cadence and slowly pull away from me. I still had sight of him as I went through Barker bridge up until the corner just before Guilford rd bridge, then things started to go downhill (except the water, that started to go uphill).
Part of me wanted him to stop at the bridge and wait however I am thankful now that he didn't. Soon I was at my lowest when I thought I recognized part of the river only to realize I was still a long way from it. At that stage I felt like I would not be able to continue as it felt like I was going nowhere paddling through porridge. After feeling sorry for myself and having a few polite words to Steve who was only glimpsed going around corners on the longest straight sections, I started to sit up and get into some rhythm with my paddling. The last 45 mins felt much better once I was able to recognize familiar sights. From Tonkin hwy after seeing Garratt Rd bridge I picked up the cadence and finished strongly.
It was a very tough paddle, both mentally and physically but now it is out of the way I am keen for some more long paddles.

Hilarity, I just saw your message after we got back, hope you had a nice ocean paddle, though it looks like it may be as flat as the river was this morning.

Swim 30:00 [3] 1.2 km (25:00 / km)

Day off today so I helped Deb with getting the girls ready for school, Put my ski on the car and left before I found an excuse not to go ( or Deb found something for me to do).
First stop was to drop off the avanti at the bike shop for a service. Nothing has been done other than a quick clean since the Karri cup.
Next stop, the pool for a quick swim. 1.2km, 400m with pullbuoy.

Paddle intervals 1:15:00 [3]
ahr:140 max:171 shoes: Endorfinn Ski

Next stop Mindarie marina for a paddle.
After a cruise around the marina and a quick paddle outside I settled into some interval work doing laps around the newer boat pens.
10 laps, alternating fast and slow then a cruise back to the small beach.

Note
(injured)

My foot is starting to feel a bit better today, still limping but I don't look as much like a cripple ( well not from the limping at least )

Note
(injured)

After feeling pretty good on sunday with only general tightness in the legs halfway through monday my right foot started to hurt pretty bad.
I am unable to walk more than a few steps without limping, with limping I can go about 100m before the pain stops me.

A Peroneal brevis tendonitis is the most likely cause (I hope nothing worse)
Some taping and modification to orthotics have had minimal impact.
Looks like non weight bearing activities will have to suffice for now. Good thing I can still paddle however only if I have someone to help carry my ski to the water.

Swim 1:00:00 [3] 2.4 km (25:00 / km)
(injured)

Unable to walk so I decided to swim.
It's tough when you haven't been for a while.
All but a few laps with the pullbouy so now my shoulders are dead.

Note
(injured)

I find myself planning the simplest routes even around the house, so as not to unnecessarily double back from one room to the next, even as far as whether to go to the fridge or pantry first in the kitchen (pantry wins as the fridge is on the way back to the bench).
It helps to find something positive where you can, and if my analytical route making ability improves because of my sore foot, yay!!
