Red course at Lake Needwood (QOC). 6.9k, 185m (I counted 230m and it seemed more like that). A runner's course. Wide open woods in many places, occasional green areas with low visibility. One section of the map was a golf course until quite recently, so that area was really open (with remnant cart paths for easy navigation). Really nice day, 60s and mostly sunny. Good to see and socialize with people we haven't seen in person for a while (Rick and Linda, Peggy and Nadim, other QOCers)
Had a good run with only a few minutes of errors. Got confused on the way to 6 when there was a trail in the terrain which extended further than what was mapped. Veered off to the east but pretty quickly read the terrain and got headed back to the control. A bonehead error going to 11 when I though I had missed a giant reentrant by being too high. I was online and would have been fine but I added some some distance and climb until I figured things out. It looks like my route to the finish was sub-optimal, with a tricky stream crossing and a few extra contours of climb.

Jacobsburg SP. A mix of single track and wider gravel trails. Some medium sized hills but only a few short steep sections. Upper 50s and overcast - kept my jacket on the whole time.

Another visit to the Brownell map to play in the shale piles. Did the 4.1k Advanced 1 course. No markers, just Usynligo. It's tough to move very fast here because of footing, vegetation, steepness or complexity and often a combination of these factors. Navigation was generally good, although a few times the tune played before I was confident that I had actually reached the feature. Overshot the first control a bit and on control 13 did a re-think of a route choice to avoid a steep 3 contour descent on loose shale. Lots of stopping to read the map to make sure I knew where I was. Beautiful day, sunny and in the 60s.
