Green course at Mountain Lakes, part of the HVO/WCOC Winter Training Series. 5.6k, climb not stated but probably about 200m. Not quite "winter" weather, but not particularly pleasant. Upper 30s, damp and foggy with wet woods from earlier rain (freezing rain, based on what the traffic reports showed earlier this morning).

Had a decent run through about 45 minutes, then the wheels came off. Pretty clean on the first seven except for being slightly off-line on a few but spotting the bag and correcting. On 8 I more or less followed the bee line to the road, which looks to be slower than heading north directly to the road. A moment of confusion on the way to 9 when I saw a small building (in the OOB to the west and maybe unmapped) but corrected quickly and hit the control fine. Parallel error to 10 when I headed for the (bigger) hill beyond the one I wanted, passing right by the flag but not seeing it - cost me about 3 minutes. Eleven was fine. Twelve was a disaster. Got to the road fine, then I didn't do things my brain was telling me to do (like look at the compass, climb the hill to hit the stone wall). Pushed about 200m to the right and recognized the hilltop with the black x's, then still attacked sloppily. Another 3-4 minutes lost. Should've taken about 70 minutes, but didn't.

Thanks to Lina for setting the course and Niels for organizing the series (and Geoff for keeping good relationships with the park).

Trexler Preserve, from the "new" parking area near the covered bridge. Trails were a bit muddy in places. 57F when I started and a few peeks of hazy sun. Dropped a few degrees whileI was out and will be 25F cooler tomorrow.
