WCOC/HVO Winter Series, Huntington SP. Red course, M70+ class. 5.7k, 230m. Mostly open woods, lots of rock features, rocky underfoot, wet areas were very wet. When we planned this outing the forecast was for low 40s and maybe some sun - the reality was upper 30s with light rain tapering off during the run. Wet rocks and leaves made for sub-optimal footing, especially on descents. Nice course set by Tony Muffatti.

Pretty good run. Missed the best route choice on 4-5 and lost a minute or two (spiked the control but was 10m directly above it and had to find a way down the cliff). Poor execution on 6 when I failed to check my compass and ran way too long on the wrong trail - about 4 minutes lost. Lost another minute on 10 checking a boulder about 100m earlier than the one I wanted. Managed to squeak in at just under 90 minutes, which was good enough.

Back to the car from finish. Walk to the start was the reverse - not logged.

WCOC/HVO Winter Series - Green course at Westmoreland. 4.3k, 225m climb. Open woods, rocky underfoot, lots of unmapped rock (but mapping is consistent and very good). Low 40s, overcast.

Good run. Lost a couple of minutes on control 5 trying to figure things out in the circle. Got too low on 13 and had to climb up ~3 contours to the obvious feature. Thanks to David Oxensterna for a challenging course.

Edit: Found and extracted from the woods one mylar balloon.

From finish back to the car. The walk to the start was the reverse plus a bit, but I didn't record that.

Chilly Cheeks Trail Race on Mt. Penn in Reading. Upper 30s, mist/drizzle, and breezy in more open areas. There had been significant rain overnight so there were lots of wet leaves over wet rocks, except when there was mud instead of rocks (just slippery mud, not shoe-sucking mud). Ran cautiously, particularly on leaf-covered descents - O-shoes may have been a better choice than the trail shoes I wore. This is the third time I've done this race - temperature for those was about 10F with 1-3" of snow on the ground.

Managed to avoid any falls, but did bang my knee a bit crossing a wall. Finished 88 out of ~190 and 1st (of 3?) in M70+. About 12 minutes slower than 2 years ago. The course varied a bit and the footing played a part, but it seems like you probably need to train for this kind of thing if you want to somewhat offset the aging factor. :-)
