Left Northstar yesterday about 2pm after wrapping up "camp". Rolling across western Nevada it was 104f. Stopped a number of times but certainly not inspired to exercise. Around sunset it was still in the mid 90s and though I had a camping option lined up it didn't seem prudent to drive 12 miles down a dirt road to lie about in the heat. So on down the freeway I went, into the descending darkness.
Considered finding a spot in the Wasatch NF east of Salt Lake, but the Parleys Canyon fire burning had highway shut down to one lane and lots of fire crews working from the right lane. Much smoke but no fire visible from road, though apparently fired started by a car dragging a faulty catalytic sending sparks into the dry grass. On I went, stopping occasionally when an open rest area appeared (most were closed, or so gross I couldn't use them)
Hit daybreak at the WY and figured I might as well keep rolling on to Laramie. Fueled up in town and headed up to Happy Jack where I popped the top and had a rather awesome nap with gorgeous scenery, cool breeze and quite notably - NO Smoke!!
