Note
(rest day)

Left Northstar yesterday about 2pm after wrapping up "camp". Rolling across western Nevada it was 104f. Stopped a number of times but certainly not inspired to exercise. Around sunset it was still in the mid 90s and though I had a camping option lined up it didn't seem prudent to drive 12 miles down a dirt road to lie about in the heat. So on down the freeway I went, into the descending darkness.

Considered finding a spot in the Wasatch NF east of Salt Lake, but the Parleys Canyon fire burning had highway shut down to one lane and lots of fire crews working from the right lane. Much smoke but no fire visible from road, though apparently fired started by a car dragging a faulty catalytic sending sparks into the dry grass. On I went, stopping occasionally when an open rest area appeared (most were closed, or so gross I couldn't use them)

Hit daybreak at the WY and figured I might as well keep rolling on to Laramie. Fueled up in town and headed up to Happy Jack where I popped the top and had a rather awesome nap with gorgeous scenery, cool breeze and quite notably - NO Smoke!!

rhr:59 slept:9.5

I've slept well this trip for the most part, but last night was exceptional. Quite tired when I went to bed since I had gotten up at 3am to edit video, but fell asleep at dusk and a solid 7, woke up at 4am for a break, but only a few stars visible through the smoky haze, so no Perseids for me. Climbed back into bed for another 2-3 hours sound sleep.

4 PM

Walking 25:58 intensity: (10:20 @0) + (15:22 @1) + (16 @2) 1.69 km (15:22 / km) +11m 14:54 / km
ahr:82 max:111 shoes: Roclite 275 2020

Walking around at Northstar, grabbing a pre-race pasta dinner on the plaza with live music. Then back up to lot F for the night. Storm cleared the air out a bit. Humid now, but that should dissipate in short order.

Walking 7:15 intensity: (1:19 @0) + (5:56 @1) 0.59 km (12:12 / km) +14m 10:56 / km

rhr:64 slept:5.0

Can't sleep (missing my truck?) so might as well get up and process video.

11 AM

Note

Checked out of my luxury accomodations, nice as they were, in favor of hanging out at the park by the river. All the fiddly bits of the video are done, just need to tidy up and add titling.

Very smoky today - not as dense as Friday, slightly blue overhead, but summits of nearby hills mostly obscured.
7 PM

Walking (West Shore Path) 48:15 intensity: (4:35 @0) + (43:35 @1) + (5 @2) 4.65 km (10:23 / km) +29m 10:04 / km
ahr:90 max:113 shoes: Roclite 275 2020

Paved bike trail along main road. Should be embargo safe. Legs still really, really dead.

Walking 12:43 intensity: (5:10 @0) + (7:33 @1) 0.7 km (18:05 / km)
ahr:81 max:93

Short loop around campground to assess the couple sites available for tonight.
4 PM

Note

Score! Steve Tarry texted and said they had space in the condo they were staying at and could provide a desk with power to work on video from since it wasn't going particularly smoothly doing it in campgrounds. And a shower! Double bonus. Thanks to Stephanie Ross for offering me a work space.

rhr:41 slept:5.0 (rest day)

Jon's flight out of Reno last night got rescheduled due to aviation fuel shortages, so back down the mountain to drop him off. Next few days will be solo, it was nice to have company and dining companion. Laundry, grocery shopping and start the process of sifting through 4 days of media on the schedule today. Maybe a nap too.. Last night's camp spot, while convenient for airport trips, was right on 89, so noisy all night long.

3 PM

Note

Hanging out at Truckee River Regional Park. Nice breeze in shade. Legs very sore from yesterday (and the rest of the weekend). May go for a walk along the river before going in search of accomodations for the evening.
5 PM

Walking (Truckee River Legacy Trai) 58:58 intensity: (58:19 @0) + (31 @1) + (8 @2) 5.11 km (11:33 / km) +54m 10:58 / km
ahr:61 max:117 shoes: Teva Hurricane XLT2

Moderate stroll, but heart rate not riding much above sedentary. Legs real tight, especially on inclines.
