Running hills 1:05:00 intensity: (25:00 @2) + (40:00 @4) 8.8 km (7:23 / km) +500m 5:45 / km
shoes: Salomon XT Wings 2

No race for me. 8K and 20K sold out, lingering injury prevented me from attempting anything further.

Planned to meet Dee, M&M, Logie and Go Salamander to wish them luck before the race started. Alarm set, ready to go, brief recollection from a few nights ago on where the race is and we left. Since I wasn't racing I didn't look well enough because we ended up driving all over Marin County for over an hour looking for the race (at one point we were within 500m of it). Ugh! Turns out Logie won the 30K while M&M and Dee raced it more casually, i.e. training. Go Salamander did 30K and then pulled the chute on the last 20 due to not having fun in the rain :)

Amy and I headed over to Muir Woods where I'd run the Dipsea Trail. Found out at lunch with the gang this trail is famous as it's the oldest trail race in North America. Ran from MW parking lot straight up to Cardiac Hill then descended down via Ben Johnson trail. Once again in the rain but the Redwood scenery more than made up for the weather. Reminded me of that XT Wing ad with the massive Redwoood trees - stunning. No pics though :(

Cycling hills 2:00:00 intensity: (30:00 @1) + (30:00 @2) + (30:00 @3) + (30:00 @4) 25.0 km (12.5 kph) +1800m

Even though it was raining and I was dead tired from the flight I did not want to miss the opportunity to ride in THE birthplace of mountain biking in the Marin Headlands near San Fran. Took the very suspect hotels free bike rental over to the Miwok Trail onto Dias Ridge to Muir Beach and back via Coastal FR and Coyote. Damn I am mad I forgot my Garmin. Distance and elevation estimated from topo trail map. LOTS of climbing, decending on the fireroads and occassional singletrack.. what I coulda done with a decent bike. I could only imagine the training/lifestyle living out there with so much free state lands. Why do we live in Ontario??? (Oh yeah our immigrant forefathers wanted to farm - eff!).

Looking down to Mill Valley.

There is some singletrack but most is off limits to mtn bikers :(

A look down to Muir Woods, where I'd run the next day on the Dipsea trail (follows the treeline from center valley to upper left).
