trail running (Orienteering) 3:07:53 [4] 20.68 km (9:05 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro

Great fun @ SSR w/ MJ.
1L was kind enough to lend out her partner to me & it was great to race with MJ. Even if we did bite of more than we could actually get through.
We hit 130, then 129 & did whole east side of map one, but forgot 154 & decided not to double back.
Messed up going to 153. Sometimes counting to 2 is hard. :-)
We turned into the first field instead of the second and wasted some time.
This was done in an hour as expected.
Headed to the west side of map #1.
Hit everything no problem, but skipped 137 the 10 pointer.
Then headed to the aid station.
We had over an hour to go & thought that was enough, but some how that time went fast.
We got 120 & 110 & decided to take the road around to 178. This proved longer then expected, but lungs were dead and I was just hanging onto MJ.
Lots of fun butt slides to get to the finish. Missing the 160, 201, 208 & the whole matrix. Ouch!
Lost time because we weren't sure if we had to go to the Matrix check-in even if we didn't do the matrix. So we went by it anyway.
had we known that we didn't have to I think we would have gone from 110 straight to 160 (120 points) and to the finish. That would have made a big difference.

In the end got 500 points less 80 points for over time = 420.

Great course & lots of fun.

Note
(sick)

Cough will last 18 days no matter what.

http://now.msn.com/coughs-last-18-days-in-most-cas...

7 days down, 11 to go.
Although, I agree cough syrup has never worked for me in the past. In this case I bought the cheapest no name brand and it has been helpful.
12 PM

yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Moksha with Dee. Thanks for the invite.

First time back at hot yoga since my self inflicted 30 days challenge fail. Back held up pretty good, but is still tight and painful.

Note

Headed to Costco tonight with my mother and for some reason she started reminiscing about seeing me come to the finish of the Slovakia 105k race.

She was shaking her and with a shocked voice said, "I just can't believe the determination. Really, the determination you had to keep going. You were running with this completely straight back, but your knees were bent and you ran with this robotic, over exaggerated gait, pumping your arms..and..and...with this huge smile. Ahh, the determination."

I just remember her crying and then yelling at me. It was really good to hear that she did feel a little proud and gets why I did it...and gives me the push to keep doing it. :-)

road run 34:21 [3] 7.12 km (4:49 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speed Cross 3 (red)

Intended to hit the track for some speed work on the way home, but am still suffering from the cold. (When you walk into the office hacking and the boss tells you maybe you should take a couple days off, you know it's bad. Instead I broke down and got cough syrup.)
Anyway, decided to try and do a fast run home with full pack.
2km easy pace
3km @ 4:30

Still a long way to the goal and to hang on to that pace for 30km.

road run hills 57:22 [3] 10.03 km (5:43 / km) +211m 5:11 / km
shoes: la sportiva

Tried to do my morning run to work, but with this cold morning are the worse. So, since I missed hills with UW on Sat, I figured I do some hill repeats in High Park after work.
9 repeats of Spring hill with a short warm-up/cool down.
TMI (read at own risk) the last set of 3 hills was tough with some major GI issues, barely made it home to the can. I'm sooo classy.

Throat was burning. As Maria would "Heir Zeller this night air is not good for the children's voices". I guess no karaoke for me this weekend. :-)

Next time I'll try this with the heart rate monitor and really push it to the point of "almost" puking just for Dee.
