Decided not to bike to dinner, but after eating WAY too much at Big Crow I walked my friends home & then continued on.

trail running 11:56:22 [3] **** 80.9 km (8:51 / km) +2747m 7:34 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 8

Cayuga 50miler.
Dee, Mrs. Gally, her friend Virginia left Saturday for the race & of course did a little shopping enroute. Boy, I can do a lot of damage in an hour.
Arrived in Ithaca around 4p.m. and got our race kits. Looks like a great town & would love to explore.
Met everyone for a pre-race dinner & even got to meet one of my WT teammates Sharon for the first time. It was great to catch-up with everyone, however the meal did not agree with me.
I had some major gas & wild dreams all night.
Race morning did not feel much better. Thank goodness that at the first AS there was a proper washroom. So I stopped and took advantage of it. Was still a little sketchy after that, but then seemed to settle. Phew!
Ate and drank more than any other race. Was concerned that the heat would get me, but although it got up to 31 degrees, it never felt too hot. We were well shaded in the trails. There was no humidity and the multiple, gorgeous gorges kept it cool. "Ithaca is Gorges!!"
Although, I am not one to return to a race course I would definitely do this one again. It was a beautiful course and town.
I was concerned about the stairs but they were no problem.
The loops and out & backs were perfect to see other racers and get & give friendly encouragement to each other.
Did the first loop with Charlotte, who was back from her nearly 750km in Hungary 2 weeks ago.
Saw 'bent flying, Mrs. Gally & V, Kristen smiling & so happy Bash could finish the full race.
Even had some surprises, Peter form WTP, Olga (who took my place for GRR), and Anand (from Desert Rats).
The elites were on fire. It was incredible to watch.

Plus seeing & getting support and cheers from Dee, Timato & Teeny was amazing. Thank you guys so much.

The best were the unexpected sighting of Timato and Teeny. At Buttermilk, 60k Timato gave me some spicy, fried potato wedges. Then at the last aid station where Teeny was still clapping and he rang the cowbell one last time and telling me catch the next guy on the down. Which I did finally about a km from the end, although they put his name before and tied on the results.

AS were really well stocked and volunteers were amazing.
No medal, :-), but a great shirt, bag & socks.

Pack: Due to so many AS, went with a waistbelt, added my pouch for the first 30k so could have my camera for pics & then I got rid of the extra pouch.
Fluids: ~2.5l, alternated btw, gatorade/Gu brew, carbopro & water.
Food: elevate bar, organic chews, jelly beans, 2 fruit cups, 1 chocolate pudding squeeze tube, 1 SIS gel, (Tried a Vega gel, took a very very little and chucked it. It was disgusting), 8 salt pills, 7 elouds, salted potatoes, couple chips.
Pacing: I tried to be smart & take it slow for the first lap. Which ended up being 5:36 I think. I thought that was a little slow and hoped I could match it for the second. But I didn't. However, I did feel great coming in. I was really strong on the downs on the second lap, much to the chagrin of many around me with knee issues. Two guys shouted at me, asking me how my knees weren't hurting. Another two guys let me pass & said "Wow." Then they read the back of my shirt & said "And she's sooo mean", but they were laughing. My shirts said, "You just got Chicked.".
As it finished on a down I had a really strong finish. Makes me question how much I had in the tank & whether I could have shaved some time off.
But I am pretty happy about it and hopefully that is a positive for the 100miler.
Clothing: Shoe choice was a BIG mistake. I had been wearing my Cascadia's a lot lately so I opted to use them, since my SpeedCross were really old and I didn't want to soil my new ones. The river crossings caused the shoe to stretch. Thus on the down hills my foot would move forward and my toes banged up against the toe box. So my toes are a mess. The worst I have ever seen them. Rest of me feels great.

Overall 113/174 finishers/231 starters
Female 27/52 finishers/73 starters

Ambit showed 79.38km & 2607m
Changed to 'bents 80.9km & 2747m

Note

It is with great sadness I cancelled the Slovakia Race.
Although, I know Sandra has the determination and endurance she does not have the speed up mountains to meet the cut-offs. And quite frankly I am not sure I do & definitely do not have the strength to tow. So we had to call it. She was going anyway, but for me it is a lot of time & money to miss the first cut-off.
It is really an amazing race concept now that I look more closely at it & I hope I can do it one day.
It starts with a 6.3km climb up, gaining 1065m of elevation and a time cut-off of 1hr 45min. CCC started with a 9km climb, 1384m elevation, but it didn't have a cut-off, thank goodness, as it took me 2:39 (I think our speedy AP friends took 2:29). So it's like a European mountain run.
Then you run up and down mountains racing cut-offs until you get to the 42k mark. Here you must be the first 18 of 36 male 2-person teams and the first 7 of 14 co-ed/female 2-person teams to be allowed to proceed and finish the full 99km. If you are not you are only allowed to go another 14k and finish running 56k.
Therefore, you need climbing speed and endurance.
Very cool. Anyone want to train with me for this next year let me know.

There is a bright side. After much searching I finally found a 70k trail race in Portugal, an hour from where I'll be. Unfortunately, it is the day after I leave. So I will just miss my flight and buy a one-way ticket home 2 days later, since the change fee is more expensive then the one-way ticket.
