More trail work. Bash and I rebuilt the bridge on the snowshoe trail near the baby gulch bridge, and cleared trail to Kolapore.
We also took more debris out- the biggest, nastiest piece of waterlogged 10x3 plywood and chickenwire. Alternated carrying it with 2 of us and my man-hauling it. A lot poorer sliding than the last piece I schlepped- I was wiped after.

Bah, now have a dry cough at night. Cancelled plans with friends and went for a PCR test.

We hiked the dogs in to the cache and hauled out some more lumber. (Smaller load this time)

Commute. My cold is a bit better.

Sitting on the couch I thought I had one of those round burs inside my pant leg scratching me- nope, it was a 5mm x 3mm deer tick on the back of my hamstring. Sigh.

Bah- had a sniffle last night so spent today running around to get a rapid covid test before work. Just a cold, not Covid, but pharmacy was backed up so no time for workout or biking today.

(2.5 hrs) Hiked in the pouring rain to the old safety cache, and got it fully disassembled.
Next I man-hauled a huge heavy section out of the woods for disposal. I managed to slide it on the sodden leaves for almost 2km, which wasn’t any worse than a fully loaded portage I guess. I was thinking it would need cutting up into small bits and dozens of trips, but a few hauls like this and it’ll be done by winter.

Assorted grunt work including cutting and moving a pretty big tree with axe, saw and lever, and dismantling part of an old bridge to rebuild.

About 15k of total hiking. Some with Timato and Aubrey, more to the Kolapore parking lot to fetch supplies and back hauling a load of planks and tools or taking old wood out.

Yay, able to put my clipless pedal back on and ride!

Great tour of Palgrave East, skipping a bit of the most technical twisty bits. I did find a brand spankin’ new segment of singletrack, perfectly built including a nice bridge well made from chainsawed and split logs.
Covid Crusher is raked and rideable too.

Full tour de Palgrave West with the dogs. The big guy is loving the cool weather, and passed the Venison test on his long-line!

Note

Hiking with the fam up at Old Baldy.
We went back to the "easy" hike we tested, where I blew my ankle.
This time the trail in was a river of AR-worthy clay-mud-slime, and it was tricky to get my 84 year old Mom up there to see the view. We all survived the slippery trail, especially the descent, and the view was totally worth it.

Another cautious hike around Arowhon on the orange trail. Less technical than the other one, but lots of deep puddles.

Swimming 15:00 [3]

Swimming in October! I donned the wet suit, and had a surprisingly pleasant swim. In the cold water I didn't want to go too far unescorted, so just out to the buoys and back freestyle.

Surprisingly buoyant on my back with the neoprene swim cap.
I think I got the head position and leg timing a little better on a few strokes, but mostly work-in-progress.

Fairly easy ride on the Rail Trail in Algonquin. No rain but muddy in spots.
Ankle was OK with the flat pedal.

I taped, wore tightly laced boots and used poles, and ankle was OK on a lumpy, wet and leaf covered hike. Getting there...

Boo, turned my ankle on a stupid small slippery rock so loud Bash heard the crack. I was floored for a bit, but managed to walk it out.
Golf-ball swelling that evening. Sigh, just as my knee was recovering.

Aside from that, nice hike at Old Baldy with Bash and the dogs.
