If a displeased venomous snake is going to be in your neighborhood, I appreciate that said snake will alert you to its presence. The sound is definitely startling, though.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of rattlesnake bites in Arizona share the following characteristics:
1) the victim is male
2) the bite is on the hand
3) the victim is drunk
In other words, it's mostly drunk dudes trying to f with snakes.
Fun to see you enjoying (?) desert orienteering! If you have another day you should definitely check out Arthur Pack, it's not so far and it offers very fun & fast running with far fewer snake and cholla encounters.

Characteristics (1) and (3) also apply to the majority of people who get eaten by crocodiles in the Northern Territory.
