Bash is a big believer in the taper and the recovery. (Which doesn't leave much time for training this spring) I'm not sure what I'm tapering from, as I had a very feeble spring between injury, a cold, family visits, Passover, meetings etc.

More specifically, I think that your fitness level a week before the race is the fitness level that you are taking into the race. So the last few days before the race is too late to gain endurance or become a faster biker, for example. It's a great time to get lots of sleep, hydrate, test and tune your gear, and review skills that you haven't practised lately, e.g. fixing a flat tire, as 'Bent is doing today. ;-) Exercise physiologists also say that shorter workouts with higher intensity give you the best bang for your buck before a race, for whatever that's worth. It's not the time to do your long run.

Oh, I should have mentioned that the people on *other* teams can work out as much as they like this week!!
