Were you going to attempt to ski from the summit? Is that even allowed or safe with all the crevases. I skied St. helens once and it was hard ice on top and wet slush down low.

yeah we were going to ski the summit. someone had done it april 4th and then as the wind let up the same guy skied it on monday. that is what ski mountaineering is... is it safe.? it's safe as you want it to be. that is part of the fun and challenge of it. backcountry skiing always presents variable ski conditions, that is why you have to be an expert skier to do it. there are a lot more knarly lines out there than skiing down from the summit of mount rainier.

The difference is that you are skiing on a glacier, which is solid ice, and it has very deep crevases. Would you rope up with a partner?

I would think that skiing a mtn like adams on the south side without glaciers would be a better run.

yes of course we rope up where need be. same rules apply for ski mountaineering you just have skis on your feet. this part of the season most of the cravasses are filled in which is why we are skiing it early season. later when they all open up it's not a feasible ski.
