Yeah i was a geek when i got home and analyzed what killed me. Definately the start, the first 20mins i was in the death zone (ahr 191) till after that hill i kicked it down a notch to recover. Over the last stretch (3k) i was ahr 188 and felt good meaning i need to stay probably around 180-185 to be consistent and strong throughout and definately be out of the 190s. Again i need to pace myself like you at the start but its a vauable lesson learned nevertheless. Once i get the thesis pieces out of the way i can focus on improving a lot of areas in running to become more efficient...just no time right now! But good racing out there, just a crapper about the wrong turn!

Funny, I run in the 180s in a race like this too, it seems.
Nobody else but us two have these crazy high HRs.
I really used my HRM a lot. If I got behind someone, I'd check and see if my HRM was low enough to pass. If not, I'd stay back until it was. If I hit 190 I had to back off, even if my legs felt good. It's just not worth it for me.

You made an interesting comment about the difference between 12 hours of training a week and 5- well, it was under a minute. Maybe 2.5 with the error, max. You had a great run, and I was pacing along behind you for longer than you suspect! Next time we can run together I bet.

Yeah you're definately good at pacing yourself. I think you might have reeled in that girl if you didn't make a mistake. On that last stretch with the switch backs, you were definately up on me at least a 1.5-2mins, cause i could see you and thought i was making ground but the trails were deceiving (awesome course design though).

If you do mono cliffs in your backyard in August let me know. Plus its a long drive for me so perhaps i can crash at your place the nite before;) I'm going to set some alarms for my watch next time to reel myself in not to go out too hard from the get go.

I've got the Mono Cliffs run pencilled in on our calendar. It's the week before our big event of the summer - the 50-hr Endurance Aventure race. Based on how I feel today, it should be no problem to do a 5 Peaks run a few days before we leave for Quebec. So let's stay in touch, but you're definitely welcome to crash here if we're in town, whether or not we're doing the race.

Sure, if we do it lets pace eachother for the first half at least.
