I'm not impressed. It took him 6 days to apologize and the press release came from the Town CAO who "assisted" him with the apology.
One of the reasons he didn't apologize the night it happened, in spite of other Councillors telling him he should, was that he proudly considers himself to be "the Don Cherry of politics".

What really bugs me is that the emphasis in the discussion has been on the fact that he should have known not to say something like that in public. It bothers me that he would even have that thought inside his head, let alone say it with his outside voice. If someone looks at a black person and thinks the n-word but is savvy enough not to say it out loud, do you really want that person in your government?
And the fact that he didn't realize the term "Jewish Lightning" was an ethnic slur, in spite of people drawing it to his attention immediately? Certain expressions that originated as ethnic slurs are more obscure, e.g. phrases that use a nickname or archaic term for an ethnic group. But when your expression actually includes the word "Jewish", only an idiot could fail to make the connection.
For those of you outside Caledon, this isn't this Councillor's first time on the front page for doing something idiotic. We've been shaking our heads about him for the past 4 years. It's unfortunate because his closest rival in the recent election was a smart, dedicated friend of ours who won the polls in the area where this Councillor lives, but lost the election in a new subdivision where the people didn't know the candidates so they just voted for the incumbent.

On the bright side, "Jewish Lightning" is an awesome nickname for an adventure racer.
