What's the purpose of blanking out the contours in front of the control? Surely you want detail there to practice changing speed and focus after getting to your attackpoint?

You can change focus, but you shouldn't have to change speed all that much. This exercise was in theory (I wasn't very good at it) partly about running straight from ap to control, no bs.
