Mr Wonderful:
I didn't even notice the trail exit from #3. At least the forest ran pretty well off trail down and around to the south.

Yeah, I don't think that probably mattered too much, if the forest was nice. I'd been burned by a bad duck into the woods to #2, so I was keen to be on a trail! Was good to see your-my-Igor's GPS on RG together, highlights some potentially better routes (Igor went how I intended to 6 and the beginning of the long leg). Was your intention to come out as you did for the beginning of the long leg? I wanted to go basically Igor's line but drifted way far off my compass, apparently!

No, I intended to go more SE than SSSE, but I need to work on rough bearing exits, which has been a chronic problem (see my exit from #5!). I will practice in the off season.

In hindsight, more E would be even better, as I heard someone ran through or near the campground on a similar leg in the spring, avoiding all the hills and that trail jumble in the middle there, and crushed everyone's split. (Found it - Svobodny on 7-8 http://www.obasen.nu/winsplits/online/en/default.a... for roughly 5 minutes saved)

Ah, nice! It doesn't look super tempting on this leg (do you know, did he go around this time?), but avoiding the hills and trail jumble are definitely things to factor in, I didn't look too seriously at that option...

Not sure. I still need to meet Tom.
