trail running 1:27:10 [4] 9.5 mi (9:11 / mi)
max:190 weight:159lbs shoes: Brooks Accel

Miami Univ. Natural Areas. 4 circuits of Pine and East Loops. Fastest 2nd loop and fastest 3 and 4 loop totals since I began keeping electronic records in 2000. I think there might be faster pre-2000 loops. I'll have to dig out the old paper logs. Pleasant temps and unseasonably low humidity contributed to a fantastic run. Song in head on last loop: Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire". Be sure to watch the video on the linked site!

walking 10:00 [1] 0.4 mi (24:59 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Accel

slow walking and stretching following run. Actually probably more like 20 minutes. Felt tight after short drive home & did a few more stretches there. Late dinner of zucchuni from my garden, cooked & topped with spag. sauce & parm. cheese, with a nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Monday Aug 11, 2008 #

Note

700+ mile driving day. SW corner of Iowa to Oxford, OH. Dropped Anna off in St. Louis. Nice dinner - 2 ears of fresh sweet corn from my garden. I might not get much more this year. The raccoons wreaked havoc while I was in Wyoming.

Sunday Aug 10, 2008 #

orienteering 1:34:13 [3] *** 10.78 km (8:44 / km)
22c shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes

U.S. Champs Red Course Day 2. Remarkable Flats map, Wyoming. Fast terrain. Wish I could have run more. Fell over log in sagebrush after leaving control 8 and strained left wrist and lower back. Felt sore & couldn't run without pain for a few minutes, but fortunately no apparent lasting effects as I write this a couple days later. Beat G. Balter from 10-11 when he went too far to the right, which gave me a big emotional lift, but he out-distanced me on the long, open prairie run to #12. Caught a branch in the throat going into 17, which left me gasping and gagging for a while, and every time I tried to run on the next leg, I felt like I couldn't catch my breath. But, after that I got back up to speed with no apparent lasting effects except for some minor scratches.

Drove 530+ miles with Anna, stopping to camp at a state park in SW Iowa, just east of Nebraska City, NE. Drove thru a little heavy rain betwen Lincoln and NE City, but fortunately the camping stayed dry.

2 circuits of East and Pine Loops at Miami Natural Areas. Near-miss with a doe near Bachelor Pond. She went across the trail right in front of me. Her fawn thought better of trying to cross in front of me and turned back.
