As expected, a physically and technically very tough affair on a 'proper' Lakes area full of rocks, reentrants and fallen trees. After a month of calf rehab I was hoping get around in one piece, and I did, definitely helped by the terrain reducing me to a walk quite regularly.
Took it super easy and was technically surprisingly solid with only 4-5 15' wobbles. It appears this was the right strategy as against all the odds I managed 3rd place in my new category of M45. Never mind that I also got beaten by 6 M50s on the same course.
Did this as a day trip from London, first to Oxenholme by train, lift to the race from the kind Baxters, then after the race 2k jog down to Lakeside pier, steamer boat to Bowness and train back from Windermere, all on a beautiful spring day. Result!
