Running (Mix) 10:00 [2]

Warmup. As it was really hot, I didn't think I needed much of one.

Orienteering race (Woods) 1:26:28 [4] *** 9.0 km (9:36 / km) +260m 8:24 / km
spiked:7/11c

SLOC Back to the Woods at Cuivre River (1:15). Course set by Yvonne Deyo and Rick Armstrong. Excellent route choice legs. I gained all my time on route decisions.

Spike ran early and predicted that David or I would run it in 80 minutes. I don't know if he was doing a psych job or really thinks we could go that hard in the afternoon heat.

Spike had trouble with a misplaced control that was fixed after his run. He said he ran in "about" 90 minutes. With David finishing in 90:03, Yvonne just gave both of them the same time. Rob Wagnon also put in a decent run (something like 100 minutes). Nice to have some depth to the competition at a SLOC meet for a change.

I've listed splits - I hope Spike will add his because there were some very interesting route problems. Spike even accused me of studying the map in advance!

Map here. Leg 2 routes here.

Orienteering (Woods) 51:00 [2] ***

Control pickup. Managed to jog most of it, but I was pretty wiped.

Running (Trail) 1:32:00 [2]

AM: Castlewood perimeter (minus Grotpeter loop) with Brad, Doug, Kristin from Big Shark.

Cycling (Trail) 1:11:00 [3]

Followed with the same thing on the bike with Lone Wolf Trail thrown in at the end.

Orienteering (Woods) 48:00 [1] ***

PM: Mini training camp at Cuivre River. Spike, Mary, David, Jeff, Brad, Paula, and myself. Put out a couple controls with Brad, talking though the map reading as we went.

Orienteering (Woods) 1:08:00 [4] ***
spiked:5/9c

Training course at Cuivre River (1:15) designed by Spike and David. Ran OK for first half, then started getting tired. Nav was a little rough in spots - small bobbles, but too many of them.

Note

5th off day in September - not good.

Running (Road) 37:00 [2]

Over to Y and back.

Gym (Weights) 25:00 [3]

If it's fall, it must be time to start lifting again. Two moderate sets just to get used to the motions again.

Paddling (Canoe) 53:00 [3]

With Doug and Vicki Vojak. Definately going faster with all three of us in the boat, but not as smooth.

Running (Road) 43:00 [3]

On CCL bike path with Nadim who is in town for a couple days. Getting pretty dark by the end.

Running (Road) 55:00 [3]

About 7 miles on the Forest Park bike path, the last 2 at 10K pace.

Orienteering (Park) 30:09 [5] *** 5.2 km (5:48 / km) +80m 5:23 / km
spiked:13/12c

Halfway through the bike path run, I ran one of the loops from the Forest Park Relay (1:10). Ran hard the whole way. One sloppy leg, although the time lost was minimal.
