Harriman Training #2 on Surebridge Mtn with AG! Stellar terrain and maybe the first time I’ve run at that portion of the map. Another great course by BigE.

West Point Day#2. I was sloppy with the nav today. small hook on #1 then couldn’t figure out the bingo’esque nature of #3. Lost 1.5-2 minute there and that rattled me and i missed on #4 too (another minute). Was surprised to see Wil en route to #5 but I never caught him. Small error on #9 too. Legs felt fine but blisters on the heels were a bit painful. Overall pleased with how the weekend went. Motivated to do some more racing this year. The process to get back into racing begins with a mini Harriman training camp over the next two days. Remote working for the win!

West Point Middle.

First orienteering race since November 2019 (Ontario Champs at Arkell Hills). Started out well for first few controls but then the course started to go uphill. I was in 9th at #6 ahead of a few good runners. BUT…Between the heat and lack of running and hills training I had to walk a lot after that. started reading control #4 when running to #12 and likely lost 2 minutes. Just tried to hang on to the end until Dave Grant tackled me. well technically we ran into each other but I got the worst of it. Probably lost 10s from that.

I really enjoyed the orienteering but need to get more running training in.

Car troubles delayed the start of our drive to West Point by six hours. Had originally planned a short map jog in Harriman to get my first orienteering on non snow this year. I should have gone to the DV while at MAC this week but several rest days were pure bliss after a tough winter of training. Sadly That training won’t be useful for running in the hilly WP terrain. it’s gonna be painful
