I slept in a bit this morning decided not to use up too much time driving out to the hills & back so I headed up to Yanchep to explore a bit.
I parked near the lagoon cafe and run up the hill behind the cafe to scan the area & picked out a high point in the bush/dunes to the south to head towards. I started along the coastal path which is nice & undulating before getting to the bush area and took one of the sand tracks towards Marmion ave before coming back a bit and turning onto a track that looked like it would take me to the high point I'd picked out earlier. At times the sand was a bit soft but overall it was pretty good except for the climb up the biggest hill which was very soft sand & steep. From the top I picked out a couple more dunes to climb on the was back to the coastal path, then back to the hill behind the cafe before finishing then sitting on the grass overlooking the lagoon drinking a choc milk.
Happy with the amount of climb I was able to get without driving too far from home or doing hill reps.
Good times.

Afternoon trail run south of Hester ave.
It had just started to rain when I started the run and gradually got heavier during the run. By the end I was running up the trail with a small creek running down the middle.
My watch battery had drained yesterday and after recharging it I must have also somehow reset my details online. My HR display was on % and showing lower it should have as my max HR had defaulted to much higher. I was happily running along thinking I was sitting below 80% and feeling faster than usual. I kept it below the mistaken 80% mark for all of the run except 1 hard effort up the main sandy hill of the trail.
I only noticed the error after uploading the data and seeing figures quite a bit higher than I expected. The strange thing is I actually felt very comfortable and managed a faster pace than usual at what I though was a sustainable effort. I definitely felt fresher at the end of the run than I would have if I had known the actual effort was higher.
Stupid legs.
