Spinning (Compu-Trainer) 1:30:00 [3] 46.5 km (1:56 / km)

First time out to RIDE Milton for a compu-trainer session. I wasn't so sure how much I would like the idea of spinning on a trainer, in a room, hooked up to a computer where you watch youself as a tiny little bike symbol moving a long a course (hill, hill, decline, hill, decline... you get the picture) and having to compare myself to the other people riding with you. However, much to my surprise, I had a really fun time. A large part of course has to do with the other women I was riding with (Bash, Funderstorm, Sherpa, WandAR and Jenna). Jenna, thankfully!, had her iPhone with good workout tunes to keep us motivated. Being a relatively silly group, we were cheering on changes in place, and generally being quite chatty.

Also, I am either a glutton for punishment or something (....) because some of the hills (steep ones excluded of course) on the compu-trainer seemed to feel no harder than some of the downhills, and definitely not harder than the flats!

I was feeling kinda worried about the time being 90 minutes since I haven't been on my bike for that long since before I was pregnant with Aubrey (or rather, pregnant enough that riding my road bike was no longer feasible). But (Tiny will groan at this since he always tells me my worrying is totally silly), it turns out I shouldn't have been so worried (darnit... he was right). Managed to keep a pretty decent wattage (average 162) and (who knows how) also pulled off the 'win' which earned me a ghiradelli caramel chocolate square... mmmm..... although I'm pretty sure Bash let me take the win... and she's sick... ;) Funderstorm kicked all our tails on the wattage front averaging 178!! Whoa momma! Put her on a road bike and I'll have to avoid going head to head with her! ;)

Thanks to Bash for organizing and to everyone who came out. I had a great time. Only downside is that I forgot my water bottles... poop.

Run 1:37:00 [3]

Mid-day run with Funderstorm at the Hydrocut. I do love running there - nicely sheltered, good trails, and pretty quiet. Saw a few riders out - all with super-chunky (i.e. kinda goofy looking) winter rim/tire sets. Lots of chit chat while we cruised around the trails.

Run 1:02:00 [3]

Morning run with FunRun and Sherpa. We started along the Grand River Trail, then made a loop of the run by finishing on the road. It was about 60/40 trail to road. Nice to chit chat and have a social run this morning.

Strength Training 35:00 [3]

TRX, sets of three exercises, 1 min each (or 1 min per side as appropriate), with sets of burpees, frog jumps, push-ups between, adding one of these exercises for each set.

Spinning 50:00 [4]

Tough, sweaty class today! Remembered to look for Funderstorm on the treadmill this morning, and had a quick chat.

Orienteering race 3:02:30 [3]

Don't Get Lost Snowshoe Raid. It is important to note that we were in 2 1/2 minutes late... and it was all my fault! Ah well... minus that booboo Funderstorm and I had a great race. We nailed the top section of the map, finishing 10-15 minutes before our self-imposed cut off. The second map took more time than we had thought, so we had to adjust our plan. I got a little too ambitious in the matrix, and shouldn't have gone for E... evil uphill run back to the check-in. :) Great weather, lots of fun out on course and laughs with my new teammates - BiT and Simpy!

Yoga 30:00 [3]

Run 48:00 [3] 8.0 km (6:00 / km)

Easy run with Aubrey in the chariot to pick up a few things at the grocery store.

Sunday Jan 13, 2013 #

Note

Today was supposed to be a long run, but the hamstrings are feeling much too tight. I think opting for some stretching this morning, and a little yoga this afternoon is probably the wiser choice.

Run (Interval) 10:25 [4] 2.4 km (4:20 / km)

Only had time for a short run, so although (or perhaps because) I was thinking how nice a leisurely 30 min run would be, I ran two 10 minute intervals with a 10 minute recovery run in between. Note to self: if the first interval (on the way out) feels like you're flying... question why that is. It's probably because you have a little bit of a tailwind, and much of your run out was on a gentle downhill. Makes the interval on the way home hurt lots more.
Hamstrings have been tight, and were definitely feeling tender by the end of this run.

Run 8:30 [3]

"Break" run between intervals.

Run 10:35 [4] 2.4 km (4:25 / km)

Interval on the return end... ouchy, but happy that I only lost a few seconds on the way back, I was hurting pretty good, so I thought it might be more.

Stroller Fit 1:00:00 [1]

This one hardly counts... it was a very easy class today.

Spinning 10:00 [3]

Warm-up / cool-down

Spinning 30:00 [3]

Short ride in the basement while Aubrey napped. 1 min intervals with 1 min off between . Got a little sidetracked by what I was watching once or twice, so that rest became two minutes a couple of times Should have set a timer.

Spinning 50:00 [4]

Spin at GL this morning. It was a tough class, totally kicked my butt. Not always easy to get up to go (particularly when Teeny sleeps in), but so good to get there.

Yoga 25:00 [3]

Rodney Yee... you make 'jumping back to standing' look like you're floating. I on the other hand make it look like a flopping fish. Not pretty.

Run (snowshoe) 1:20:00 [3]

Run at the hydrocut with Funderstorm. We headed out in snowshoes to at least get one run in on them before the Raid. After about 20 minutes I started to feel like I was getting the hang of snowshoe running again (less duck running, more comfortable running). Of course most of the hydrocut has been walked and ridden a fair bit, so we didn't really *need* the snowshoes... Frankenstein was untrodden however, so at least we got to play in some fresh snow for a km or 2. :)

Strength Training 1:00:00 [4]

TRX, three sets of three exercises with sets of intervals between each set of exercises. Intervals of burpees, line jumps, frog jumps and push ups (one exercise added each round). Very tough. Legs where mighty wobbly when I was done. All exercises were 1 min, as many reps as I could do.

Spinning 50:00 [3]

Managed to get a good spin in while Aubrey was napping this afternoon. So nice since her afternoon naps are generally unpredictable. Decided to do a long series of climbs with short breaks. Seated and standing climbs. Tough on the legs, but felt good.
