Cycling 50:00 [2]

Frosty sparkly ride in and soggy dark ride back with the big guy.

Strength 22:00 [2]

Caron’s core class

Yoga 50:00 [1]

Class went OK but really felt tight left hamstring.

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 1 + rehab and a whack of lumberjack work on some complex logs.

Cycling 1:10:00 [2]

Nice sunny singletrack scoot to work, and a frosty night ride home with AD.
Got the chubby snowtires on the bike, but it’s hard ground right now.

Lumberjack intervals 26:00 [4]
shoes: Saucony Razor

Run to work with the big guy. We did a few speed intervals (surges?) en route.

Running 30:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Razor

Easy night run home.

Note

Good bikejoring video from the world champs relay. Looks like short twisty laps.
The actual lap starts around 56 second in.

I like the bathtub of cold water the dog hops into at the finish.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Part of workout 3 and rehab.
12 PM

Running 1:42:07 [3] 12.53 km (8:09 / km) +298m 7:17 / km
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Just me and the big guy on the North part of the Humber trail. Brody was great, even when we spooked a coyote. He was standing on his back legs trying to watch the coyote disappear over the field in tall weeds.

My Calderas weren’t really grippy enough for the mucky sections and I got some nice soakers. I wish they had the Caldera fit with a waterproof built in gaiter and a deep lug tread like a Fellcross or LaSportiva Crossover with optional studs. I wish the Snowcross or Sportiva fit me better. My Razors are waterproof but don’t have deep lugs or studs.

I started a discussion here: https://ar.attackpoint.org/discussionthread.jsp/me...

Running 1:54:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Caldera blue

Haffy North with BGY and AD. Easy run, nice to catch up.

Lumberjack 30:00 [2]

Spent quite a while working on some tough logs with maul, wedge and sledge.

Thursday Nov 23, 2017 #

Cycling 55:00 [2]

Singletrack ride in with AD and night ride home.
My ear was bad on the way back and put me a bit off balance, but still better than driving.

Skipped core and yoga class (and half a night’s sleep).

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Rehab, part of workout 1 and lumberjack work.

Running 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Razor

Took the big guy the long way to work. Our night run home was slow as *someone* had to sniff and pee on everything. Farm dogs kept their distance this time.

Sunday Nov 19, 2017 #

Running 2:08:00 [2] 14.0 km (9:09 / km)
shoes: Saucony Razor

Easy 3-dog run with Bash and Browner. The big boy was harnessed to me and he helped for part of the run. I was OK at an easy pace, but turned down an invite to go with Storm and Ursula and make myself sick again.

So great to be out again.
We had some adventures searching for Browner’s phone, but Bash has the protocol down.

Saturday Nov 18, 2017 #

Strength 30:00 [1]

More rehab and rest of workout 3 plus some core.

Friday Nov 17, 2017 #

Strength 30:00 [2]

Easy workout 2. Cold is finally easing off.

Thursday Nov 16, 2017 #

Running 1:05:00 [1]
shoes: Saucony Razor

Easy jog/hike in with the big guy. Lungs were OK at a gentle pace.
Lots of eyes in the dark on the return, as the mighty BZ dog sent the big farm dogs packing, and tried to do the same to a few deer.

Hiking 40:00 [1]

2-dog plod to work

Tuesday Nov 14, 2017 #

Cycling 1:00:00 [1]
(sick)

The big guy needed more than just a walk, so we did a super easy commute. Walked the steep hills. Lots of bike lights out on Palgrave Singletrack on the way home.

Hiking 1:10:00 [1]
(sick)

Hike to work and back. I needed some outdoor time and so did AD.

Sunday Nov 12, 2017 #

Note
(sick)

Too sick for RTH. Sounds like it was a tough one!

Friday Nov 10, 2017 #

Strength 40:00 [1]

Still sick but needed do do something so some easy lumberjack work, some rehab and part of workout 1with much lower weights than usual.

XC Skiing 15:00 [1]
(sick)

So gorgeous out- crisp and snowy, so I got out my worst rock skis and did a little lap of our yard and our neighbour’s trail with AD in very borderline conditions.

The big guy was furious at being left out, so I took them to the fenced property, where they both instantly buggered off, ignoring a fox40 whistle and treats. I eventually followed the raucous barking, and Brody was in a roaring face-off with a coon hiding in a big log pile in thick scrubby woods, while Logan ran circles yapping.
I had no voice to yell, but got him off the logs long enough for the coon to scoot up a tree. Coon was p*ssed, and the big guy was a raging maniac for a while.

Easy hike to work. Needed the fresh air, but not really up for much more. Still no voice- maybe hacking a bit less.

Hiking (Hike/ run) 7:14:44 [2] 31.95 km (13:36 / km) +1958m 10:25 / km
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

Absolutely spectacular hike up to Yosemite Falls, Yosemite Point then North Dome and Indian Ridge, and run back.

Forecast was for heavy rain and half a meter of snow up top, but it changed to a clear day so we headed up for a fairly epic hike.

We went up the switchbacks and under the massive sheer wall to Yosemite Falls.

We saw a few people there, but from then on we had the park to ourselves. Incredible views of the valley from the cliffside lookout.

We headed on up to Yosemite point for even more expansive views.

From then on it was rolling terrain through gorgeous open mature forest and some burnt areas, then on to the massive granite ridges that lead to North Dome.

Spent a while there gawking and taking pics, then headed back up to a higher dome on Indian Ridge.

That’s when it occurred to us that with the time change we had 2 hours of daylight left to get back, not 3, so we ran back.

We did have lights, down jackets, raincoats, gloves and hats, but would rather not need them. The trail was indistinct in places, so I followed the Garmin trackback to be sure we didn’t detour.

It fogged in for the last part with occasional amazing glimpses of the valley.

We made it to the top of the falls in just enough time, but were surprised to see tourists still ambling up, some of whom had no packs, jackets or lights. We remided them that it will be dark when they return, and a couple of dudes at least showed us the phone light they planned to use. Oy vey.

We kept a decent pace down and never had to crack out the headlamp.

Photos to follow.

Hiking 2:00:00 [1]

Hike to school, then met Bash for lunch and a trip to Mirror lake.
Not a bad end to a school day!

Pics on Bash’s log.

Hiking 3:50:00 [3] 20.0 km (11:30 / km) +1300m 8:41 / km
shoes: New Balance Leadville 3

Early hike up to Glacier point then Sentinel Dome in Yosemite before school. Spectacular way to start a 3 day dental course. Gorgeous day, clear skies except for smoke from forest fires.

The clouds moved in while we were up top, and we ran back down in mist and fog.
