Cycling 55:00 [2]

Easy commute with Bazingadog.

Wednesday Jul 30, 2014 #

Running 1:10:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (40:00 @3)
shoes: Altra Olympus

Warmup loop in the hilly Charlevoix trails. Feels so light without Schlepp, backpack or dog. Also cooldown after the tempo.

Running tempo 20:00 [4]

Fast tempo commute + with Bazingadog.
Glute- hamstring issue is still there since before Cayuga, just doesn't show up hiking.

Running 28:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Easy night commute home.

Tuesday Jul 29, 2014 #

Running- tire schlep 32:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Ran with both Schlepp Jr and Bazingadog part way, then bushed Schlepp and ran the Rollercoaster as it's too much to handle both of them across the road.

Running- tire schlep 43:00 [4]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Solid run home with Schlepp and some good hills. Whew!

Big surprise as I arrived- the fence is in at our place! One section is temporary, but Bazingadog can just trot out the door and run around finally.

Running 3:04:54 [2] 24.41 km (7:35 / km) +615m 6:44 / km
shoes: Hoka Mafate 3

Nice Tour de West Caledon with Bash on a hot day. Several trails I haven't run before, and I felt good with decent legs. Ribs were a non-issue, and the heel bilsters weren't bad while running. Did a few out-and-backs to get 3hrs. Farthest I've run since the injury!

Saturday Jul 26, 2014 #

Running- tire schlep 1:40:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Shut-up-legs run- 15 running, 5 walking hauling Schlepp Jr over hill and dale in Palgrave East. Pleased to see that running with Schlepp wasn't too bad after yesterday's hike. Paying some dues for UTMB.

Hiking 10:48:38 [1] 50.47 km (12:51 / km) +1347m 11:20 / km
shoes: Hoka Mafate 2 B

Overnighter with Funderstorm and Bash, from 3:20 PM to around 3AM.
We started North of Mono Cliffs, hiked to our aid station at the Tai Chi Centre, then back home. From there we did a loop of Palgrave East and West. We met Slowrunner, who was good enough to bring our cooler back home.

Great hike though lots of varied terrain in perfect weather with good company.

The Mafate 2s gave me pretty nasty blisters on the lateral heel borders- I changed to the 10.5 Mafate 3s for the last loop.

Cycling 55:00 [2]

Nice cool morning for a bike commute with the Bazingadog.
Stopped on the return trip to eat berries and pick up some firewood. (Slowly transferring it home from the bush log by log)

Wednesday Jul 23, 2014 #

Running 26:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Commute with the big guy and a large cloud of deerflies.

Running 25:00 [3]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Night run home- ribs aren't really a limiting factor running now for shorter runs at least. Still a little sore in the morning, and not doing any upper body or core work yet.

Tuesday Jul 22, 2014 #

Running 1:00:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Altra Olympus

Too hot for dogs today. Solid run to work, and back via Singletrack and Charlevoix.

Running tempo 20:00 [4]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Some light tempo- fastest I've been able to run since the injury.

Note

This is funny- Airbus patents a saddle seat for passengers.
Maybe the UCI banned the recumbent-style reclining airplane seats as an aero advantage. Hopefully they'll be handing out spandex shorts and Chamoix lube to passengers.

Cycling 1:05:00 [3]

Easy ride in with the BZdog and a solid solo ride home via Palgrave doubletrack- not ready to trust my ribs to Singletrack yet.

One stop for étouffée de la visage avec framboise.

Hiking 1:45:00 [1] 10.5 km (10:00 / km)
(injured) shoes: Hoka Mafate 3

Plan for today was to hike 2 hours and run 2. I went to Hockley and did a loop before meeting Bash and Funderstorm, and hiked the last bit while they ran. Mosquitos were terrible while hiking but can't keep up at a slow jog, so I had to run away from them more than planned.
8 AM

Running 2:15:00 intensity: (1:15:00 @2) + (1:00:00 @3) 15.63 km (8:38 / km) +889m 6:43 / km
shoes: Hoka Mafate 3

Run in Hockley with Bash and F-Storm. Nice to be out, and ribs were pretty good. I ran most uphills then walked back to break it up, and turned back at 5th line, skipping the pinnacle and taking the side trail back before hiking the road past the ski hill.

Feeling good but best not push it.

Running- tire schlep 1:55:00 [3]
(injured)

Coach LD took Bazingadog while I took Schlepp Sr and poles to explore a conservation forest NW of us. Great time finding all the new trails, eating berries and not seeing another soul.

Got to bike it next time with a GPS.
Also another block across the street worth exploring.

Running 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Hoka Mafate 3

Ran the Charlevoix trails with a break in the middle for a good swim for the big guy, then over to Palgrave E.

Cycling 2:18:00 [3]

Ice cream run to Inglewood with Bash and Coach LD. Not quite as fast as last week's rail trail spin, but a decent pace. Good company, great ride. Excellent raspberries.

Running- tire schlep 1:10:00 [2]

Took Schlepp Sr, Mocha and my poles for a hilly tire-hike circuit of the Charlevoix trails.

Ribs were a bit sore, but Mocha appreciated the cool morning.

Running 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Altra Olympus

Easy run to work with the big guy, and back at sunset. Ribs were a bit sore on the way there, but not bad on the return trip.

Tuesday Jul 15, 2014 #

Running 55:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Altra Olympus

Woke up with ribs a bit sore, but there was great incentive to run all the way to work as the skies opened up with WT- worthy rain. Able to run home too, with a couple of breaks. Felt OK but not perfect.

Monday Jul 14, 2014 #

Cycling 55:00 [2]

Easy ride with Bazingadog. I was very pleased that my ribs weren't too bad after yesterday. Progress!

Sunday Jul 13, 2014 #

Hiking 2:00:00 [2]
shoes: Hoka Mafate 2 B

Hiking with Goose handling the Bazingadog.
Hilly section of Bruce, with lots of good swims. We just got in between storms.

I was able to jog for a 20 min session in the middle. See how I feel after...

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Hoka Mafate 2 B

Another couple of hours off hilly terrain. This time I went to the dingle and Glen Haffy and did the hilliest trails out and back. Best part- Coach Spaff let me try some more running, so I did 10 walk, 20 run for 3 repeats until my ribs decided some caution was in order.

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Hoka Mafate 2 B

Actual running! Haffy hills. Ribs not too bad, but 3x20 min is enough for now.

Saturday Jul 12, 2014 #

Running- tire schlep 2:00:00 [3]
(injured)

Long hard hike with Schlepp Sr. I dragged him up hills, on trails, some easy some very overgrown, the back way through Palgrave and almost to Gore Rd and back. Had to use poles to get up the bigger hills. The last bit was a gravel road, and a light jog with Schlepp felt effortless by comparison.

Friday Jul 11, 2014 #

Cycling 1:30:00 [3]

Quick shot down the rail trail for some paperwork in Tottenham. Ribs felt good buzzing along at a steady 35 kph on the way there. I tried a little easy Singletrack on the way home, but was feeling it a bit. Still not a bad ride.

Wednesday Jul 9, 2014 #

Running- tire schlep 25:00 [2]

Took Mocha and Schlepp Jr for a hike around the F&M trail with poles.
Still hurts to run, but schlepping at a hike pace was OK.

Mocha and I also did 2 repeats of Mt Tobler after ditching Schlepp. She's trotting along well.

Cycling 1:15:00 [2]

Took the big guy for a ride around the Charlevoix trails. Got off and walked the bike up a tricky bit, but otherwise biking feels OK- better than running or sleeping.

Nice evening ride home too.

Tuesday Jul 8, 2014 #

Cycling 25:00 [2]

Commute with the big guy- riding the big 'bent on doubletrack felt pretty good on the ribs.

Monday Jul 7, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Another painful night with poor sleep.

Hiking 40:00 [1]

Brisk hike home with the big beastie chasing the smaller beasties a few times on leash to challenge my ribs. Sigh.
I jogged a little and it wasn't too bad with the ribs tightly strapped.

Sunday Jul 6, 2014 #

Cycling 1:10:00 intensity: (30:00 @2) + (40:00 @3)

Humber trail:
Easy ride on smooth paved bike path was fine on my road 'bent, even if I pushed it a bit. Wheeee!
The little 'bent is rib-friendly, and is so fast it feels like piloting a jet, especially after 2 weeks of only walking pace.

Also finally woke up with less pain than any night since the incident.

Running- tire schlep 5:00 [2]

Tried Schlepp Sr. with some poles for a hike, but the ribs weren't too keen.
Pity, hauling the big tire on grass felt like climbing steep hills with poles.

Maybe a bit sore from biking though.

Saturday Jul 5, 2014 #

Hiking 2:30:00 [2]

Hiked in Hockley on Quest for Hills. Bash and I started South of the b*tches, then hiked north over all 3. Bash ran back all the way to Palgrave while I hiked around the different trails at the NE corner, including 3 more b*tches, then back over the regular 3. I then drove to the base of Dave's pinnacle and hiked that, then up the new re-route on the old ski hill and back.

Ribs still hurt to hike a bit. No running but at least I got out on a gorgeous day.

Cycling (Trainer) 30:00 [2]

Easy spin on the trainer to see how it goes, watching a bit of the tour pass my native Yorkshire.
I could feel the ribs unless I rode really gently.

Thursday Jul 3, 2014 #

Note
(injured)

Ugh, rolled over on my bad side last night and it was so sore I had to relocate to the basement arm chair to try and sleep a few hours. Still nice to be home.

Tuesday Jul 1, 2014 #

Hiking 3:50:00 [2] 13.0 km (17:42 / km) +1092m 12:28 / km
(injured) shoes: Hoka Mafate 2 B

Better sleep for a change- slept until 6.

Bash, Carbon and I went for an absolutely spectacular hike over Cory- Edith Pass on a perfect bluebird day. Unbelievable views! We took the steeper way up and the rib-sparing gradual way down through a very nice mossy forest.
No running, ribs still hurt, and saw a bear running up the hill away from us.

Interesting times at the base where the keys got locked into the car with the ignition on and hence a flat battery, but a bit of dexterity with a trekking pole got it open.
