Running (Track) 30:00 [2]
(injured) shoes: Ecco Receptor

I figured my back is well enough I may be able to take part in the running analysis seminar (See Bash's log for detailed notes.)

We all got video taped running on track from front and back, and the doc spent some time going over our technique. Suffice it to say that I personally could see that my technique is crap, but how much of that is due to my injured back is unsure. The doc didn't spend much time on me as I'm not running normally yet. He had some amazing insights into most people's running though- "You have a leg length discrepancy" "You need more core strength" "Did you injure your right ankle last year" etc.

We did get to see a lot of other runners' styles and learn to critique them, so we plan to video each other running (somehow this sounds vaguely naughty) and see what we're doing. Lots of work on arm motion and posture needed for sure.

Also got to start recording resting HR, although I've always had an embarrasingly high resting HR, but a freakishly high max HR too.

The good news is that my cold's almost gone.

Hiking 40:00 [1]
(injured)

This was supposed to be a gentle ski, but we got glued to the slush, and it ended up being a hike with ski poles for me.
I was OK running on track earlier today, but I felt my back a lot going downhill.

Cycling (Trainer) 1:00:00 [3]
(injured) (sick)

Well, my back is finally getting better ( ie not crippling any more) and my cold's easing off, so I decided to reach deep into the fannypack of courage and ride my trainer. Good thing my bike's a (recum)'bent, as it was pretty good. Can't run a stride though, but I can walk a bit.

Note
(injured) (sick)

Wow, my back is still horrible, and my cold is too! Can't even walk to work yet- I can barely walk to the car. Oh well, it's supposed to snow soon.

Note
(injured) (sick)

Somehow, perhaps through hacking like crazy, I've injured my lower back, and have hardly been able to walk the last 2 days. Isuppose it could have been from skiing or some very easy core exercises, but I doubt it as I did both of those s-o-o-o gently. I'm hoping I've just strained something and not damaged a disk.Work was pretty tough yesterday. I had a visit with thumbs-of-death who I thought could fix it with a few adjustments, but it's no better so far.

Kind of ironic to do all that running with canoes on my head, carrying my recumbent up cliffs in the dark,160km ski marathons with a pack on, hundreds of weight workouts, and I manage to hurt my back on a week when I'm taking it very easy.

Still have the nasty cold too, and now the coughing's really painful. Not a great start to being 44, even if it does let me skip another CP in Tomass after January.

The good news is that I'm not missing out on any skiing or biking, and it's the very best time of the year to be both sick and injured. Hopefully I'll be perfectly healthy next time it's ski-able.

The other good news is that Bash can bake! Who knew? Double-chocolate oatmeal cookies! I feel better every time I eat one. Maybe if I eat the entire pile I'll be cured.

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]
(sick)

Rather lethargic workout, but better than nothing. Definitely not up to Tomass.

My lower back's a bit stiff from yesterday's easy ski, or some feeble core exercises yesterday too.
