Cycling (Commute) 1:00:00 [3]

An interesting ride on the old 'Bent. A mix of hard mud and ground, slick ice and crunchy crusty snow. I had a studded front tire but could have used studs on the rear and icebugs on my feet in spots.

Running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Icebugs 2

Run with Bash and the Beasts. Definite Icebug day!

Strength (Home gym) 1:00:00 [2]

Workout #1. Not exactly blasting.

Running hills (Hill Intervals) 25:00 [5]

Hill intervals with the Bulletdog on Thinker's Hill, etc.

Running (Commute) 35:00 [2]

Run to work with both dogs. Lots of dog snow angels where there was still snow. Goretex shoes?... I almost needed a pack raft to get past an area of oatmeal mud in a construction area.

XC Skiing (Commute) 25:00 [3]

Even with my slow waxless boards and soggy condtions, it took me half the time to ski to work today on a longer route than yesterday's snowshoe commute. This afternoon should be the last gasp on the skis- it's melting as I type.

XC Skiing (Commute) 30:00 [3]

Snow's disappearing so-o-o fast in the fields. Very borderline ski, last of the year I suspect. I also went into water over my ski boot. Nice.

Snowshoeing (Commute) 50:00 [1]

An easy plod with T-dog home. Feet are fine, and no real problems, just a little tired from the weekend.

Snowshoeing race (Rogaine) 8:00:00 [3] 26.0 km (18:28 / km) +974m 15:33 / km

Day 2 of the Snowgaine.
Today we were a little sore from all the running, and Bash wasn't feeling well, but we had more time to strategize, and did a shorter but more efficient route at mostly a quick hike speed . Some factors in decisions- much faster on snowmobile trails than post-holing with snowshoes on. Somewhat faster in other tracks, but not always the right direction. We saw Salomon out on the course, and could follow their progress on the sign-in sheets.
We made it back in time to throw on the skate skis and pick up 2 last controls. I did an elegant telemark into knee deep wet sknow and went down like a ton of bricks, but it was fun.

We ended up 2nd co-ed, behind Salomon even with their monster penalty. MBR beat us both, and I suspect results may have them on the podium. They were the fastest team to use only snowshoes for sure. The 2nd place team lives right in the area, and used skis, bikes and snowshoes. In fact, the interesting dude in orange top, camo tights, jester skirt, beard, pony tail and coonskin cap was welding a rack for snowshoes on his bike 10 minutes before the start!

Fun event, great crowd to car-pool with, and a heck of a deal too!
