XC Skiing (Classic) 55:00 [3]

A short spin with Bash around Silver Star's lower trails. I got some good hard climbs in as I was feeling stronger but my knee's not 100%. Off to Sovereign next to cheer on V02Max.

XC Skiing (Skate) 50:00 [3]

We met up with Urthbuoy after the race, and had lunch and another short ski around Silver Star. The skating's coming back, (when I'm not poling my ski tip) but the knee won't allow much longer than this.

Also pumped him for info on Geothermal heat vs propane for CO2 reductions, not to mention trading AR stories...

XC Skiing (Classic) 2:00:00 [3]

Sovereign Lake- Up to the summit and back via Lars Taylor and Dark Prince.
Another perfect windless day, with heavy cloud below but brilliant sunshine where we are.

XC Skiing (Skate) 40:00 [4]

A short skate with Bash, and V02max joined us for a bit too.
Ended up doing some of the hilliest trails, which is not too easy for first time on skate skis. Knee protested a bit.

Note

Tarno gave me his brand spankin new classic skis to try. They're a bit stiff for me, according to Almageddon. Does anybody know the specifics of the trick to soften up the camber of a ski a bit? Something to do with clamping them and placing them in a sauna, but how hard, at what temperature and for how long?? Should I post this as a Discussion topic- it's not really orienteering-related, but there are some very good skiers here.

XC Skiing 3:15:00 [3]

Classic around Silver Star. We did a quick early morning loop, as we had hoped to meet up with Revy and Courtney for a 10AM ski. It seems they had the same idea of an early ski, and I think we called them the same second they called us and we didn't connect.

My knee was a bit sore from yesterday. Still, a nice morning ski around the lower loops of Silver Star, just above the cloud layer. After lunch we skied over to the far side almost to the summit and back. Not too shabby at all! Knee felt better by the afternoon.

Good dinner with speedsters Tarno, Almagedon and Kenhaw, who come here every year to smoke the trails. Fellow Team Gimp Tarno can skate like the blazes now, but can't classic. Hmm, I can't skate but classic's OK. Maybe a ski purchase in the offing?

XC Skiing 40:00 [2]

A short but nice birthday ski at Silver Star. We had to rent skis as ours managed to vanish in Air Canada. A hassle for a short ski, but we may need to hang on to them for tomorrow. Hopefully our skis will arrive. V02max has 10 pairs here, but wrong bindings. Tarno and Urthboy offered me skis too.

Nice dinner with V02max, Revy and Courtney afterwards. Mmm, grilled prawns and coconut clam chowder.

Note- my sore knee really appreciates flying in Executive class, and damn the air miles! Thanks, Bash.

XC Skiing (Commute) 30:00 [3]

Skied in to work on the waxless boards with Bulletdog. I got a ride home as it was too windy and I wanted to rest my knee.

shoes: Ecco GTX + Screws

Knee was fine to run in but a bit sore afterwards.

Cautious hike-jog home as the knee was a bit sore today. It was OK though for this.

Orienteering race (Thomass) 42:00 [3]
shoes: Icebugs 2

First time "racing" on the bad knee. Actually went OK. I ran slower than usual and got caught up with the pack before the box, running with Sid and GB. Then, a funny thing happened. I just went into the woods and waited until everyone went away, and after that everything went fine after that. I had to take it slow in the bush, and was very nervous reading a map while on bad footing.
