Healy Pass with a big group of Canmore runners.
Feeling my cold today.

I felt sluggish at the start, but once I warmed up I felt good and ran up with Adam Campbell and Fitzy. Trail was mostly runnable, and we regrouped a couple of times. Gorgeous alpine meadows, and jaw-dropping views.

I waited up for Carbon, Bash and Myka at the pass, while CO went on to Egypt Lake and Pharaoh Peak. I ran back wth the ladies.
Despite my cold I felt good, and part of me wanted to go the long route with the gang, but CO ended up being out for over 7 hours and that might have been a bit much.

See Bash’s log for pics.

“Rest day”. Pics on Bash’s log.

Hike up with Flight, Celia, Bash and Carbon for a view over the Spray lakes.

Nice to catch up with Flight, and good views for a relatively short outing.

Note- woke up with a cold.

We had done this on a backpacking trip 28 years ago. The hike up is very different now after forest fires- lots of meadows with wildflowers and standing dead trees, with more open views.

The headwall seemed a lot less steep without a 38kg pack, and Floe lake was gorgeous. From there it’s alpine meadows and forest up to the pass, with phenomenal views of the Rockwall.

We jogged back down, and it made for a pretty big day after an energetic week. Nice dinner at Sage after.

Arnica and Twin Lakes with Carbon, Myka and Bash.
The rain held off, and it was a nice outing. Footing was soggy on the way back, but the enchanted forest was cool.
Very nice lunch at Storm Mtn Lodge after.

Corey/Edith Pass- good pics on Bash’s log.
We had planned to hike near Lake Louise, but the crowds were astounding- no car access and over 2 hour wait for shuttle bus!
Back to plan B, Corey Edith pass.

Excellent climb, gorgeous views up top, then through the spectacular Gargoyle Valley in nice clear weather.

Lady Mac with Bash. We tried to fit this into a small weather window- fully socked in this morning.

Made it down before the rain.

Out West, we met up with the Carbons, Myka and Slice and Steve.
The plan was to do a lollypop up Mt Collembola, across to Mt Allen and back.
Morning looked good, but chance of thunderstorms starting at 11 and increasing through the afternoon.

I headed up at a solid pace with Slice, CO, Steve, Tom & Heather.

We turned off the main trail to Mt C, and Slice leg us up a steep bushwhack for a while, then a steep open slope.

As we got near the false summit the weather took a dive, with thunder booming. We gave it a minute but it got worse, so we headed back down.

We had to hunker to wait out pelting rain, blasting winds and pea-sized hail.

The hail made for a slippery AR-type bushwack down to the main trail, then Steve and I bombed it back to the car, meeting the ladies near the bottom.

It was brilliant sunshine by the time we got back.

Nice brunch at the Iron Goat instead of the summit.
