What, what? That's POCAR. I mean, why this when you can do POCAR? ;)
Barb you should check out an A-meet sometime too. :)
I can skip POCAR too? All the better!
Yes, definitely Barbara, you should check out an A meet. Such a different experience than an AR weekend. No plotting, no crazy meetings with 80 different rules or caveats, maps you can trust with impunity, plus all of your AP heroes are like TOTALLY RIGHT OVER THERE (not that I talk to any of them ("Hi, I sometimes make obnoxious and deliberately inflammatory comments on our mutual website, nice to meet you"), but you would!).
And if you stuff up, shrug it off, hike around a bit, and try again the next day. For my level, I can go as hard as I can vaguely navigate and be about as recovered as I ever am - a clean slate.
Yeah, just two days of classic bliss.
Wait, unambiguous maps, sleep and people around instead of 1:50k, headlamps and solitude.
Tough sell...
Two days of classic bliss...PLUS if you are missing mayhem, there's extreme o on Monday:
Mal Harding Extreme-O is patterned after a three-day military competition held in a member NATO country each year. Typically, competitors orienteer from several different types of maps, including aerial photographs and topographical maps. Past events have included rope bridge crossings, canoe legs, culvert controls, memory legs, and other interesting tests.
