Orienteering race 1:16:33 [4] 7.2 km (10:38 / km) +325m 8:40 / km

ROC Meet at Powder Mills Park - Red course.

Worked the start until about 1:45, standing the whole time, so my legs, already quite heavy from all of the running (some of it fast) yesterday, were not feeling good. I did a brief w/up, then just started a bit on the easy side.

C1 - didn't cut in the first trail and avoided some climb, but could have waited one more gap. Didn't dare try to cut across the "marsh", but it looks like it was runnable.
C2 - Saw Walt on the way there and he said he hadn't found it, but attacking from the trails near the houses led right to it.
C3/4 - just an out and back - had seen C4 from the upper trail on the way to C2.
C5 - ran hard down the hill, past Kevin Hill's group, then up the next hill - moved a little cautiously because I wasn't sure about the trails at first.
C6 - left the trail at the bend, then came close to OB for the climb
C7 - couldn't tell if there was a left route, so just went right
C8 - could see the boards when coming down the hill too far left
C9 - straight
C10 - left around the hill
C11/12 - plenty of climb
C13 - both feet sunk into the muck crossing to the road, right of the fence
C14 - got down to the road, then deja vu
C15 - came down the hill in the right spot this time
C16 - left around hill again and started to realize that I had a chance at Sergey, although I couldn't remember his precise time.
C17 - what a pain to get the last few meters!
C18 - took the trail route, which meant crooked and extra climb, but I tried to hustle - realized going in that it seemed to be the same control as the first loop
C19 - almost panicked as I got close and couldn't see anything to go from, but decided to get through the green and find the corner of the hill and busted right out to the flag.

First local win since August of 2010, also at Powder Mills Park.
