Strength (Lumberjack) 1:30:00 [3]

Hauled 4 loads of wood from the bush and spilt a pile.
Also lots of heelhab.

Note

Nice 2-dog hike with BGY and family. Quinn and Bazingadog should be wiped out now.

Tuesday Dec 30, 2014 #

Running 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

Commute with the big guy. His shoulder seem ok now.

Monday Dec 29, 2014 #

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]

Cautious commute. No studded tires so the ice was treacherous- glad I can get a foot down easily. No pooch, but ran into Crash, Skyerocket and Tammy on the way home.

Sunday Dec 28, 2014 #

Running 50:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Easy residential/park run with BZdog. Heel felt better today after some heel drop stretching pre-run.

The big guy had a sore shoulder after romping in the leash-free park yesterday. It seemed Ok today but he was favouring it slightly by the end, so a rest day for him tomorrow.

Saturday Dec 27, 2014 #

Running 36:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Bash and I managed to get out for a little family history tour run around Brantford.

Heel's still sore despite days of doing nothing.

Note

Some seasonal bike-tuning

Running 38:00 [2]
shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR

Commute with the big guy.

I had to use the Hokas for a photo shoot at lunch time, where a photographer for the Globe had me running back and forth on hills and bridges for an upcoming article. He also got me with the 5-fingers.

Running 30:00 [2]
shoes: Hoka Stinson ATR

Soggy foggy dark run home. No cougar sightings.

Monday Dec 22, 2014 #

Running 1:00:00 [2]

Run on hard snow with the big guy.
Used Hokas as apparently a photographer wants a pic of me in them, but didn't get the call today.

Friday Dec 19, 2014 #

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

Took BZdog over to BGY's neck of the woods for a run. Bluebird day out, and I hope we tired the big boy a bit. Manisa spoiled us all after with lunch for humans and treats for beast.

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Part of workout 3, plus hauling huge sleds of firewood around, splitting and stacking. I've been waiting for smooth sledding conditions to bring in a couple more loads from the back bush.

Yoga 50:00 [1]

Caron's holiday class with live music.
Despite being an easy class, my right knee was bugging me and my left foot is weaker on balance perhaps due to the heel issue. Must start working on this to balance out.

Wednesday Dec 17, 2014 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Workout 2, foot/kneehab, KB and lumberjack work.

Running (Commute +) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

Too soggy for snowshoes- snowcross weren't too bad.

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

Better night run home- the slush froze up a bit.

Tuesday Dec 16, 2014 #

Snowshoeing 1:05:00 intensity: (40:00 @2) + (25:00 @3)

Another slushy slog to work and back in the rain. Even hanging in the furnace room at work my stuff's not drying, so it's my waterproof/breathable outfit for me- MEC Adenat tights and Sealskinz socks.

The pooch just curls up in front of the fire.

Monday Dec 15, 2014 #

Snowshoeing 1:10:00 [3]

Heavy slog to work and back with BZ dog. I broke trail beside our ski track where I could, but it's all melting anyway.

Note- left medial heel is getting more sore.

Friday Dec 12, 2014 #

XC Skiing 2:00:00 intensity: (1:00:00 @2) + (1:00:00 @3)

Fantastic family ski in the deep powder. See Bash's log for pics.
We ran into some skiers from the 5-winds club.

In Palgrave East we were breaking a lot of trail, setting ski tracks next to snowshoe prints in places. BZdog was really working hard in shoulder-deep snow, and eventually slowed to a plod until we hit tracks again. We wore him out! Me too- it was hard work.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Went to work with the shovel to clear the path to the garage.
An hour later our neighbour showed up with a front-end loader, and was surprised to see it dug out already.

XC Skiing 40:00 [3]

Wahoo, dumping snow out there! I harnessed up the Bazingadog and off we went, Dashing Through the Snow.
One mixed blessing to his recent training- he's more companion and less tractor on skis.

XC Skiing 45:00 [3]

Wow, what a return trip! Just floundering with submerged skis in the open fields, until I hit Bash's tracks where she kindly broke trail. The beastie had to bound like a rabbit- I need a longer trace on his harness if he's not hauling.
Love it!!

Teachable moment for Bazingadog when we saw Mr. Porkie waddling down the trail, and I tried to convince him that no good can come from that.

Strength 40:00 [2]

Supposed to go to a party after work, but the cars are barricaded in behind a huge pile of snow the plow left against the garage. Solid workout digging out, and also hauling a big load on the sled through knee-deep pow.

Wednesday Dec 10, 2014 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Solid workout 1 + foothab and some KBs.

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

I had planned a first loop with BZdog before leaving him with Bash.
We've been working on him not hauling me around- if he pulls I stop until he settles.

First time was fine, second time I stopped his metal collar buckle went "ping" and flung off. He looked at me over his shoulder and took off. I caught up with him, and blew the fox 40 that always works in the fenced yard. He just gave me the Lance Armstrong Look and blasted away, leaving me holding the broken collar, and whistling with futility.

From the time I called Bash to get dressed and help me find him to the "Got him" text when he came trotting back was only 6 minutes this time at least. Double collar from now on- we don't need any more drama right now.
After my feeble running at the Icebreaker I decided I need to up the intensity, but not that way!

Solid singletrack run to work after I got him back home.

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

Easy late night run home.

Tuesday Dec 9, 2014 #

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Solid run via the Rollercoaster and extras with BZdog. We've been doing some work and he's getting the idea of not dragging my arm off, even when we saw 2 deer close up.

Monday Dec 8, 2014 #

Running 23:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Fast run home sans pooch- drove the Bashmobile in to get snow tires put on.

Sunday Dec 7, 2014 #

Strength 1:10:00 [2]

Link workout, foot/kneehab, lumberjack work

Saturday Dec 6, 2014 #

Orienteering race 2:00:00 [4]
shoes: Fellcross 3

Icebreaker
A couple of interesting twists on this one. First off was the Killer K, basically up and down the escarpment 3x, before getting the CP at the top. I might have gone a bit hard on that... Next up, a mobile CP. The ARKmobile was at certain spots but only legit to punch for a short period at each spot before it moved on. I hit it exactly as it opened the first time at 55a and then chased the Griz down the road and rail trail to the far West end.

Navigated the tricky CPs by myself cautiously but successfully, about as close as I get to spiking them.
After the Polar Express I made a beeline for the ARKmobile at 55b, then back down to the escarpment edge. In my mind I scored another75 points but if I'd read more carefully I'd have noticed that you could only get points on one mobile CP so it ended up costing me a slow swamp crossing and a 600m detour.

Turned out that I could have possibly cleared the course with those extra 6-7 minutes, but I ended up needing to leave some 20 pointers on the table, and finished the maze with seconds to spare.

Good fun course.
Griz, TurboHammer and Andre ended up clearing the course. AG won the juniors with a massive margin- that's our Athlete of the Year!

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Frosty singletrack ride in to work. Just a teaser of snow- not enough to ski.
Easy way back.

Strength 20:00 [2]

Hard Core with Caron. She was merciful this time.

Yoga 50:00 [1]

Wednesday Dec 3, 2014 #

Strength 1:00:00 [2]

Home gym workout 2 + foot/kneehab. Still can't do front raises with my wrist.
Also spent some time wailing away with the splitter maul on the log pile.

Running (Pole Running) 55:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Snowcross

Solid run with poles, trying to bound a bit to simulate skiing. Bazingadog was in fine form too- he thought we were skiing.

Running (Pole running) 30:00 [2]

Easy run home- the big guy was on stop-and-sniff duty.

Tuesday Dec 2, 2014 #

Running 57:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Crossmax Green

Wintery commute. Snow falling by headlamp was pretty magical, especially as the one I had dims by "imperceptible" flicker, which turned snowflakes into chains of light.

BZDog didn't even try to launch after a rabbit we saw!

Note

For everyone who asked if there is some way to help support the Belize Dental Mission I was on- hot off the presses, Tom and Cathy are looking into getting a permanently-equipped trailer with generator to just roll up to a building and start the clinic rolling.
No more Home Depot Shopvac/compressor and spiderweb of extension cords.

Cycling 55:00 [3]

Chilly ride with BZdog. Especially blustery on the night ride home.
