Briefly chased Angel, took some pics on one of the main thoroughfares. Very briefly chased Igor, which was really dumb on my part as his head start was too great, also it was uphill, and I was overdressed (and out of shape).

Eager to check my head cam, I may have caught a beautiful diving forward roll by Brenda.

I should have known I was in trouble when I got a little winded jacking up my car to swap some tires.

I couldn't run. Occasionally I could shuffle, but any prolonged shuffling resulted in stopping to catch my breath.

The course was fantastic and runnable, map was immensely readable, everything looked exactly like I expected, so it was super frustrating to not be able to move.

Two minor errors: drifted left to #4, and the miscounted the swamps slightly, not realizing the downed tree was the dark green at #12.

Quick sample of the northern points of the Ati's course - so much fun terrain, I loved it.

Drove over with Wangki, who unfortunately did undergrad AND masters at U of M...and discovered orienteering during his PhD at U of I. So I pointed him at the juiciest bits of terrain versus my more beginner-friendly section.

Note

Igor draws the big guns - Hammer signed up for Waterloo.

Note

MetroNav needs to produce one more event. I tried out my new self-printed check system by giving myself a small reimbursement, and the ATM rejected it. I finally got into the bank to check on it, and they said the check looked fine, but the account was inactive.

Hung some flags at Maybury. One streamer missing, another on the ground.

Apologies for the bonus trail; I sent my c locations to Jen without highlighting that Igor’s update had it correct so my sketched one should have been purged.

Orienteering 30:00 [3] *** 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Ran water out to the cars.

Would have been easier with a bike!!!

Note

If I submit my final, I have no excuse until September not to get fit and be in shape.

If I hold off a little, I can eat trash right up until midnight....

Note

Forgot to mention, re: Maybury...

I did the east half, and didn't wear gaiters (as is my preference for scouting - if I need them for scouting, the point needs to go), and was fine, other than accidentally kicking a log with my favorite shin (ouch). Brambles not bad.

I would wear them for competition, since I run less daintily in race mode, but I don't think it'll be too bad for most.

Emergency re scout for Maybury. I took the Eastern 40%.

Jen has a fun layout, which effectively takes out equestrian trails as good routes (they'll be overprinted purple), and it took me to a couple places I hadn't been to yet, which is impressive.

I would have been faster if I hadn't discovered a significant amount of unmapped trail on the periphery, some of which was a high speed thoroughfare connecting some points.

Should be able to hang just on Sunday morning, split between Jen and I and/or some Clint.
