H man pickup, Jimmy John's because the stupid crock pot stopped heating at some point and the food was cold and in the danger zone very probably for >4 hours and had to be pitched (if I lived alone I would have put it in the other one on high, but didn't want to risk the fam), then Trick Or Treat

I think that is our...fourth? slow cooker in the 4 qt range that has failed in the last 15 years. Definitely none of the ones we've tried are buy it for life. :(

This round almost didn't happen as someone wanted to redo entire holes starting at #2, had a meltdown when my position was "onward and upward" and they nearly ran out of chances.

No discs in pond, and I got a two on one of them, which was nice.

Eight of the flags near pond Lily placed at the ninth, a water stop.

Cheated three times - once when in the “I’m not sure these are current” horse trails and the parallel ridge I was misreading, once at 74? As I didn’t see the stand of pines but did see the field, seems I was maybe 30 m away, once to confirm location when I couldn’t find a trail that sort of had a three spot disappearance before being almost findable.

Good time, other than biting off more than I could chew and getting out later than I planned. Also fog added time on way back.

Also I desperately need a better print option at home - mine is super faded so between reading glasses probably needed and super blurry page with terrible colors I struggled.

Definitely not hero conditions on Lakeview, which was covered in leaves.

Someone had taken a leaf blower to Riverview!

However having taken the longer way there, not going fast in the first bit, I decided to two track back from the end and rejoin again for Lakeview.

Pretty pleased with the 15 mph total time average, since that includes a number of lights and we worked hard on the way back up into the wind, something like a four mph swing in reward for effort.

The usual short loop + a bonus extra that included some accident gawking. Didn't hear it, was alerted by a cop car with flashing lights on the road while I was on the east most part of the trail. Little scary as I consider the shoulders on that stretch as my safest road option.

Consumed:

(4) snacks
2/3rds of a liter of water

He did almost all of the distance, except for 4-5 since he was weary of the hay, which was cut a little above our socks (we were in shorts), so I piggy backed him over there.

Farmer's market run.

You can deposit money without ID at the counter
You can withdraw money from the ATM without ID.

You cannot deposit money and withdraw it the counter without ID.

We only know this because a machine generated FSA check can't be read by the ATM anymore so it has to be done, annoyingly, in person.

Boy is off today, so no chance for a lunch ride.

Some teething pains to restart - apparently if you buy a second fire stick it doesn't default to matching the other one, so some app logging in.

Then after just 11 years, the rechargeable batteries in my wireless headset have passed on, so I had to figure out how to change them and toss in some alkalines until I can get replacements.

Using my new found knowledge of the school's likely location from a little google-fu that landed on the zoning comission's variance report, I set off and found where my son's current school is headed for next year.

It is NOT pedestrian friendly.

To approach from its side of the n/s road, you would run out of sidewalk by the freeway underpass, go through grass or a very busy lane, pass by a two lane freeway entrance, and a four lane freeway exit (it's at the #2):

To approach from the other side, you can cross at a light a half mile earlier, then ride up, then jump into traffic to do a Michigan left, where the final part of the Michigan left is to jump onto a busy two lane road which either has northbound traffic or freeway exit ramp traffic. Thankfully I hit it at a light time.

Once onto its access road, there is naturally no sidewalk. Mind you, before you get to it, you pass a large Hilton Garden Inn, and this is all about a half mile from some business areas with restaurants - walk after your work day for a bite? Nope, load up the car.

Then exiting the place, northbound side has no sidewalk and it seems a cx bike on grass is not as plush as I would have imagined.

Fun to explorer anyway. I parked the bike and hopped a fence down to the creek. There is an alternate "safer" way, if you do some potentially trespassing? and climb through 100? feet of a 5' diameter culvert. No car traffic anyone.

Also based on scat I didn't realize there were coyotes so close to home. I have spotted them four miles north so I guess not out of the question.

Failed attempt to locate the 2023-2024 home of the school. It's within two miles of the current location, near something named SHELDON, backs to a creek, has a busier road per background noise. Swing and a miss. Tomorrow al Norte.

I have no idea why me and/or the bike are so slow. Effort feels honest although I guess the HR average doesn't say so.

Super fun course on the new map of Sleepy Hollow.

Barbara and Adam both headed north before I started, so a good guess.

Then I went on to stuff up #1, distracted by some other larger rootstocks to the north before doubling back. Swap was bone dry so harder to distinguish the boundary and realize the over shoot.

Didn't quite hit bisecting trail en route to #2 where I thought, but solved with marsh end and eventually that trail.

Caught Adam at #3, we left for #4 together and both realized that white = yes white run here good times and green = no thank you. So I started treating the white like a maze and you could totally navigate by taking white corridors.

Couldn't resist trying the swamp to #5 but I didn't cut it enough so Adam caught back up.

Lost some of the game trails to #8, but you had good topography and a marsh to guide.

Took power line style clearing to #11 - had tire marks which made it a highway.

Exited #12 through junk rather than go around and it wasn't that bad.

Did not see giant log right at #14, having crossed the stream earlier. Sloppy exit from #14 added a little distance.

Caught Peng in my troubles (or did he catch me?) at #17 - glorious giant old pines but I drifted right and hit the trail and doubled back. I motored up to #18 but he caught me before the road en route to #19 and then slowly disappeared. I was screwed if he started after, but perhaps okay if he started before.

Good times, I will take the win even if it was lightly attended with no regular Red demons to dethrone me.

After yesterday's chilly wet walk at 47 deg F, I thought today might be rough doing a bike in a T shirt at 37 deg F, but it's a dry 37 and I did use gloves and it was really not that bad, at least for 11 minutes.

Not our finest. First block took five minutes of jacket on, jacket off, jacket back on troubles. One of his issues with today's jacket was a lack of pockets, so when he put it on again, I showed him where the pockets were. Even still, 90% of the trip featured a soundtrack of wailing and teeth gnashing.

Great day and nice course. In the hubbub I got halfway to #1 before realizing my compass was on the table or in my car, but I figured I had a reserve in my hydration pack and it would be good practice without.

I figured it was dry so most swamps were fair game, woo woo.

No crazy mistakes, some cautious routes on account of low visibility making straight line difficult sans compass. Should have detoured more around vegetation 11-12.

Oddly tripped twice on trails 12-13, and once off trail 12-13. Had I gone mad.

Rode down to Ford to drop off a couple of parts.

Apparently spotted by daughter who is down visiting the Henry Ford museum.

I was composing my log entry, thinking I would write "I felt strong!" - at that moment, doing 17 mph up a light grade, I was passed solidly by a guy in shorts. Fitted type shorts and possibly cycling shorts, but not like, bike shorts in the lycra sense.

The good news/bad news is the construction is still ongoing, however that does mean there is a shorter way if one braves a widely laned four lanes + turn lane road for a couple of miles. Then you can cut through one of the 1000 parks named "Ford Field" and end up on a bike laned surface street that mostly gets to the campus.

Failed attempt to walk for some grub straight from pickup.

Harvey charged and hit me on arrival from after care, which never really warms the heart. He was then not hugely cooperative on the walk, then at one point protested walking by sitting in a business driveway. After he smacked K, I picked him up and carried him home for cereal, to everyone's, and far more his parents', dismay.

Harvey used a razor scooter today, which worked surprisingly well considering he only started using it yesterday. Other than the 39 deg temps got to him and he pushed a bit too far into it so he hands weren't warming up (plus at T shirt and hoodie his core was probably not on fire by any stretch), so we switched to walking at just over halfway to generate more heat, then he finished up with a rather nice brake dragging downhill to the finish.

The 222 bpm for a while is not real, thanks Garmin HR strap.

It's...spit-shined to start, seems like that shouldn't be an issue but I saw that on an earlier trace.

Apple Watch optical is a more reasonable 140 ish at that time.
