Monday May 20, 2013 #

walking 2:00:00 [1]

Santorini. Had planned to take the 900 or so steps from the harbor to the town, but the path was so covered with donkey droppings that rubber boots and waders would have been appropriate. So I settled for going up and down on the cable car, but lots of walking in town and lots of good photos.

road running 23:40 [4]

30 laps of the 160 m track. One of the crew members was also doing laps under the hot Agean sun, so it was fun trying to keep up with him.

swimming 20:00 [3]

Two sessions. One of about a dozen laps, dodging the hippos lolling about in a very congested pool. Later in the evening, did about 20 laps with the pool almost to myself.

Sunday May 19, 2013 #

walking 2:00:00 [1]

Mamaris and Dalyan, Turkey.

swimming 10:00 [3]

160 m track. Stuck on ship due to rough weather, we were unable to dock in Crete.
8:37 mile with 4:29 and 4:08 halves.
Pretty soon after lunch so I didn't push it.

swimming 10:00 [3]

A dozen or so short laps of various strokes.

bicycling - stationary 10:00 [3]

weights / strength 5:00 [3]

Tried a few unfamiliar pieces of equipment.

road running 7:35 [4] 1.0 mi (7:35 / mi)

Decided to go for a fairly fast mile. On the 160 m track.
Halves in 3:57 and 3:38. On a short track with tight turns, and walkers to watch out for.

Thursday May 16, 2013 #

walking 2:00:00 [2]

Epidaurus and Palamidi Fortress, Nauplion. Hiking, lots of steps.

road running 17:15 [3] 2.2 mi (7:50 / mi)

Miles: 8:11, 7:38
Halves: 4:08, 4:03, 3:56, 3:42
22 laps on 160m track.
Didn't feel that fast, and because of very light misty rain, the track became very slippery on the turns. So I was sure that the track had to be short. But I walked 3 more laps afterwards and came up with 160-170 meters from pace count all three times. So maybe it is real.

walking warm up/down 5:00 [1] 0.3 mi (16:40 / mi)

Cool down on the track. Another few minutes of stretching.

orienteering 1:10:00 [1] **
15c shoes: Brooks Accel

Setting controls at Camp Stonybrook and doing a few minor map updates.

This evening, went with Orunner and Brennan to meet the Tarahumara runners who are in town for this weekend's Flying Pig marathon. Very cool to meet Arnolfo of "Born to Run" fame, and rising star Miguel.

By sheer coincidence, Brennan had decided weeks ago to use Born To Run for a school book report, which he will be presenting next week. So he was really excited to get photos and some first person experience to share in his report. It was amazing timing when we just found out a couple days ago that the Tatahumara were coming to town.

Thanks to (and a little plug) Bob Roncker's Running Spot for hosting the Tarahumara!
