Running 1:30:00 [3] 11.55 mi (7:48 / mi)
shoes: Asics Stratus

OUCCC old guys run, Shotover + around

Old guys, cause it's just grad students around for the summer, I was the second youngest! No other girls though, so the pace was on the quick side. Split up at Shotover- 2 guys wanted to do 2+ hours, Jon needed shorter, Paddy, Justin, Steve and I went for 1.5, which Paddy led to within the minute, impressively.

I still felt pretty ok at the end, think my endurance is quite good comparatively. But I couldn't keep up on the steep up hill up to the car park at Shotover- the guys took off... More hillwork!

Running 34:00 [1]
shoes: Asics Stratus

Warm-up over to the track, found out that the entire sports complex wasn't open until 8... Oops!! Guess sometimes being an early bird isn't as good... Decided to do 55s intervals instead of 300m intervals on Meadow Lane.

Warm-down back home afterwards.

Drills 4:30 [1]
shoes: Asics Stratus

Running drills.

Running intervals 8:15 [5]
shoes: Asics Stratus

3 sets of 3 x 55s with 30 s recovery in the sets of 3, 3 min recovery between the sets

Decided I wanted to do some speedwork, so followed a track workout the middle distance runners did sometimes in the spring. Was ok, but I forgot to take my inhaler beforehand, which meant I was wheezing, so it wasn't very much fun. Must remember to take the inhaler before runs!! I'm blaming hay fever I think....

Running 9:00 [1]
shoes: Asics Stratus

Recovery between intervals.

Cycling 52:00 [1]

Garsington-Wheatley-Horspath

Nice ride! Inspired by my new housemate who has been cycling everyday, and by a trip Thursday up to a pub in Garsington- was nice up there. Really nice cycle!

Realization:
The reason my bike has been so slow is because the back break is rubbing.
Fixing this made it much more pleasant to cycle!

Running warm up/down 36:00 [1]
shoes: Asics Stratus

Warm up from home -> South Parks, the recovery jogs downhills, and running back home.

Legs felt real heavy on the way out, then started getting a eency pain in my left shin, and I started to get worried. Went away though... so all's well!

Drills 4:00 [1]

Some drills to occupy myself while Tim came over- he beeped at me in his car on the way over, so I figured he'd be a bit late...

Running hills 12:00 [5]
shoes: Asics Stratus

6 x 2 min, up the steepest bit of South Parks. Did these with Timmeo which was really good, we're pretty similar speeds. I wasn't well enough warmed up for the first one, but after that was pretty consistent getting to the same bush each time.

I carried map and compass with me, and practiced taking bearings at the end of each interval, when I was really tired- figure it's good training.

Running 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Green Trail Brooks

Easy run around Port Meadow's nature reserve. Ran looking at maps, which 1) made it more interesting and 2) kept me from going to fast for an easy run. Was looking at a sand dune map from Holland last summer and this year's JK relay map.

Inner hamstrings still sore from circuits on Monday!!! Must be the jumps?

Orienteering race (Summer Series) 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Walshes #2

Summer series at Hodgemoor.

I orienteered horribly. My brain just seemed totally turned off, and particularly the brain-compass combo... So many wrong-path errors. Actually, that was mostly what the errors were. Worst was right off the start (which is a mass start- you'd figure I wouldn't get totally lost!), ended up hitting a path that I didn't mean to be near, then got confused... And another real silly one the last loop, hit a trail junction perfectly head-on, then choose the wrong trail... Blah. Still have stuff to work on, very clearly!

Legs sore from our explosive circuits yesterday too- inner hamstrings. From jumps or from Rune's hamstring exercises, not sure.

Running 4:00 [1]
shoes: Walshes #2

Jog back to the carpark with Hanna.

Running 38:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Stratus

And back in Oxford! Ran up Headington Hill, down to Marston. Tons of cars- some sort of roadwork up towards Headington making things worse than usual? I felt like I was probably breathing lots of exhaust with all those cars idling and such. Blech. Came back on Marston Road, but Mesopotamia was closed? so headed over Magdalen Bridge, having met Pauline on the way.

Asthma back at it when I stopped running. Not the worst it's been, but maybe it is, at least partially, a reaction to the car exhaust? I have a new inhaler I got when I was back in the US, need to start using it I guess.

Strength (Circuits) 38:00 [1]

Back to circuits! Summer-type number of people, but we did a good job getting some more explosive leg exercises worked in, should keep this up! We stayed in the shade as much as possible- was warm!

Running 9:00 [1]

Easy jog back to St. Clements with Pauline.
