Spartacus Long
A technically solid race with a massive physical blow up. Just walking a lot in the last 40 minutes. Pretty sure the illness had an effect as would expect to be more capable than that.
3 gels, lots of water at the drinks control.
One was an easy introduction didn't think there was much in the routes so kept the straighter simple one.
Aimed to go high to 2 but was way too high and a bad bearing over the top meant I was off line and confusion induced hesitations meant I lost around a minute. Wrong route choice to 4 lost another 30s.
4-13 all felt very easy and very similar just climbing up to the top and dropping in repeatedly.
I thought the route to 14 was pretty obvious with the bit of geeking I'd done. Unfortunately I was now starting to struggle on any minor uphill.
It was nervy dropping down and stopped early to correct some minor issues which saved time losses down the slope others had.
Counting indexes to 15 I saw low wasn't much more climb and it looked shorter and a much more gradual climb. Contour wasn't great but good enough. First 3 splits on livelox all different routes which is cool. I just shed time physically. Had second gel here (caffeine one) and a load of water at the control.
Poor route to 16 as round was quicker than over. 17-19 good gel coming out of 19.
An unnecessary banana to start the long leg but otherwise happy with the route. I lost around ~4 minutes on a 16min leg to Peters and Chris. Just completely empty. Spiked the last loop and it took me 5:40 and Molloy 4:11 which is enough evidence of the bonk.
