To the golden gate bridge and back in a light drizzle.

Gym machine (Hotel) 10:00 [1]

Swimming (Hotel) 10:00 [1]

Hotel pool too small (took 4 strokes to get end to end) to get in a good workout and too shallow (3ft) for any flipturns. Disappointing it was referred to as a lap pool online.
6 PM

Running hills (Road/Trail) 1:30:00 [3] +405m

Go Salamander led me up to Twin Peaks area, good grind up to the highest point in San Fran. Unfortunately it went from California to Scotland-ish as we ascended, damn microclimates, and visibility of the city was nil.

Cycling (MTB) 3:00:00 intensity: (2:00:00 @3) + (1:00:00 @4) 38.48 km (12.8 kph) +1035m

Camp Tamarancho with Go Salamander. GS showed me some of Marin's great singletrack and led a strong pace throughout the ride. The rental 29'er hardtail was great.

Too tired afterwards to join GS on the Giant's win of the world series (Detroit loses again - eff!).
GPS tracks to be uploaded soon.

Running (Road) 1:05:20 [3] +15m
shoes: Newton Gravity

After an *exciting* day of training on data standards for regulatory submission I was dying to get out for a run due to warm temps in the 20's.

Baltimore (aka Bodymore) doesn't have the best reputation and I was a little worried about running too far from the Inner Harbor tourist area. But there was nothing that could hold me back from making this a destination run seeing as one of (if not THE) best show on TV was filmed here.

I wasn't going to venture into West Baltimore to see Hamsterdam or East Baltimore to scope out Marlo's hangout but since I was on the water I was determined to see some of the highlights from Season 2 - mostly featuring the waterfront dock area.

I wasn't sure what to expect as the kms clicked by (...I kept a little in the tank should this turn into a tempo run). However, 75% of the run was within at least 500 metres of a Starbucks (my litmus test for a safe area in the US) and I knew I didn't need to worry. After running by the cafe where "The Greek" meetup was my destination run met it's destination turnaround - the Major Crimes Unit - one of the recognizable landmarks of the Wire where all the wire taps took place. It's a little more run down and smaller than I expected.

On the way back it was more Wire landmarks like the docks where the union guys worked.

I took a less direct approach on the way back and zig-zagged around the many docks along boardwalks, cobblestones and brick-lined running lanes seeing an incredible amount of runners... Haven't seen this many runners out since Honolulu? Suddenly my tempo reserve was shifted from dodging bullets to not get dusted my fellow runners.

Here til Thursday. Hopefully more safe Wire runs.

Cycling (Road) 1:15:00 [2] 35.0 km (28.0 kph)

Cold ride on the usual short hilly route. Bike power decreasing at an alarming rate, only 3 escarpment climbs and my legs were feeling it. Oh well, only 6 months til spring... ughghgh.

On the plus side I rode the newly paved bike lanes on Campbellville Road. Finally some room for us, no more clinging to the narrow side of rutted road. Now if I can only get about 20K of bike lanes on No5 SR from Guelph Line to Winston Churchill I'd be a very happy commuter.

On a related note, is anyone (Super, Hansel) in Halton attending the summit below? Sucks it's on a weekday... maybe I can get my work to let me attend since I bike to work therefor it is work-related??

Cycling race (FAC) 3:30:00 [3]

I'll refer to Goose's well-written race report for anyone interested in a detailed summary of our race.

A few personal thoughts:
- great racing with another strong team who worked well together in some very miserable conditions.
- the course was pretty good for the most part (distance, length) although a few trekking CP's seemed to be there just to keep us out there for a longer time (served no purpose - ping pong between lakes).
- worried about some of the less-experienced teams in that weather. Would rather "advanced" CP's be placed near the end of the race, not in the middle for the sake of the newer teams.
- miss the rivalries with the other competitive ON co-ed teams like MBR and Beowulf - guys get back out here?!
- missed out on yet another pair of free Salomon shoes to RaidPulse because Geoff calls out the overall finishers (all-male) first to the prize table. Last time I checked elite category is co-ed.... Isn't there some sort of delta to see who "really" won (i.e. Mountain X-games) ;) (just kidding kind of - congrats to RP for another overall win!).
