Setting 10 controls for Day 2 of Deschutes Daze not-quite-NRE meet! No disasters this time, phew.

Hiking 45:00 [1]

Sylvia's White course

She didn't seem to have any interest in running, plus she was in her sparkle pink crocs instead of any sort of reasonable footwear, so didn't push it even a tiny bit.

After a prod to line up herself and the map to the way she just approached a control, she can now choose which way to go (at least out of two choices) when at a control. Almost to being able to let her do the nav part on her own. PNWOF this summer might be some good opportunities for that this summer!

We did a lot of classifying various small trees into newborn, baby, toddler and kid categories. And spoke in Spanish a fair bit.

Eep!! Setting controls for Day 1 of Deschutes Daze, but then at the FIFTH control I was setting, realized I had not been setting any flags (so setting our new snazzy fiberglass stakes and the SI units). So much then had to unfold to make up for that lapse at essentially breakneck speed. There was almost a disaster when a phone died that needed to let me into a car with the flags.

But the phone recovered, I recovered, and I think the only one affected was Ben Cooper who got to his 4th (I think control) just about when I was also arriving to set it out. Some communication issues to work out about not starting folks before it is fully verified all controls are out in the woods... but we do really know what to do to make an NRE in the future, so hopefully we'll do!!

Holy moly, butt kicked by my friend, running around the Nike World Campus. Did 4 x 800m at 6:30ish pace, which felt hard. Need to do more actual workouts!!

Also, longest run in awhile.
